When first discovered by Captain Noordermere's expedition in 1647, on landing on the island, one of the cute creatures was staring through the fronds at the landing party.
"What the devil is that?" enquired the captain of his hard working but hard-of-hearing bosun.
"Aye aye, Captain" came the response.

That makes it a calendar month.
Have to say, it was helped by a sh*tty cold that lasted almost 2 weeks, but its actually been easy; I just stopped because of the cold and didn't bother restarting. It wasn't intentional.
My eyesight has improved. Weird. My lungs are clearer and I have more energy. Mind you not poisoning yourself with carbon monoxide is gong to help.\ So all in all interesting, and here is a tip:
Smoke until your mid 40s, That way when you stop you will feel young again and be as healthy as you were in your 20s and so not feel the effects of ageing!

Well done! Keep it up - it's worth it.
If you are feeling better after a month, then it shouldn't be too long before your sense of smell improves, followed by your sense of taste.

Smell and taste are already noticeably different. I can smell the rabbits now, we have a couple of rabbits in the house in a cage, and it stinks!
Apparently the chance of a heart attack halves in three weeks or some such, which is a remarkable change.
I stopped flemming up huge gobs of crud after the second week. In itself an interesting experiment in finding out just how much crap there is in your lungs as a smoker.
Next I need to do some fitness, get my software engineers body back in shape because its skiing time soon! Need to be fit for that, its sodding knackering.
I thought I would do a few ks each day on the bike, should be good for the legs and lungs.

I know the feeling - when I gave up I had to move things around in the living room, because the coal in the coal bucket smelled so strong I couldn't sit there and watch TV...and worse, my taste in wine changed dramatically.
I had always assumed (while smoking) that the crap in the lungs was traffic fumes...

It's a denial thing, I suspect.

So I can smoke for another 20 years, then quit with no consequences?
Awesome!
Well fads they come and fads they go.
And God I love that rock and roll!
Well the point was fast but it was too blunt to miss.
Life handed us a paycheck, we said, "We worked harder than this!"

Yeah, pretty much.
You can do almost what you like till your 40s, you have enough youth to carry you, after that though its time to live healthier.
Mind you my dad lived healthy, didn't smoke, ate organic, drank red wine, and got strokes and died of cancer at 78. His dad was a fat slob who smoked and died at 84, so nothing guaranteed.

Thankyou, that does mean something.
I wished the govt would just ban them then there is no messing around. All non smokers would agree, and 90% of smokers would too. Just an outright ban, period.

My brother, age 52, has been in the hospital for over 3 weeks ago because of smoking and COPD. His oxygen level got so low they had to hospitlize him. Hopefully, this will force him to quit smoking as well.
And, don't fool yourself into thinking you're good to go if you quit by your 40's; my mother quit, but too late, her lungs were shot and developed lung cancer 5 years later.
I cannot stress strongly enough: if you love your family, quit for their sake.

Yeah, cancer can get you anytime, for any reason, These days bad diet is as risky as smoking, type 2 diabetes is a nasty one. SO I put my faith in red wine, garlic, good eating, veg, salads and greens to keep me going! That's one thing in my favour, I have always eaten well.

I have always eaten well too. But the definition may vary.
