Personal development, in my experience, grows most rapidly and permanently during challenging times. Even with professional (software) development, learning and confidence comes from struggling with difficult problems.
I'm pleased to see the majority with optimistic outlook.

I don't want to say better or worse just yet.
It's going to be different.
I'm going to have to move twice (second time I'm moving out on my own!) in the coming year. I'm 26 and haven't moved ever!
I'm going to pick up on studying, taking it up a notch.
I expect a pay raise, but also higher costs (due to moving out on my own).
It's an OO world.

Each year we experience Technological Advancement which makes our life more easier.
There are many advantages of it like Security is improved, communication is getting superior each day, life saving drugs and vaccines are getting cheaper, user-friendly innovative things are increasing at good rate. Human Awakening and literacy are increasing.
So ultimately each day in next upcoming year(s) will bring more betterment in life.

Ok, but does it benefit you? The survey says "Better" is whatever's important to you.
Personally, I don't see any technological advancement that is going to make things better for me in 2014.

Ofcourse, the technological advancement will improve everyone's lifestyle.
Maybe the part where you live is already at its peak, or you might be missing something to notice which indirectly bringing betterment in your life.
Being in IT industry will bring you regular pay increase(though small sometimes).
To get better job and bear its upto the person, the better the efforts the better the jobeer.

"Security is Improved" - good one, made me spill my coffee. Heard of Snowden - should try reading some of that.
"life saving drugs and vaccines are getting cheaper" not if big-pharma has anything to do with it. They're also perfectly willing to dump the ones proven not to be "life-saving" on less regulated markets, such as the recent resurgence of Thalidomide in Brazil (I kid you not).
But, hell - keep going with those rose-tinted spectacles, maybe get a slightly corrective prescription next time though.
