Unfortunately, combat flight sims are a dying breed extinct. I was a huge fan of Falcon, the Janes series (F-15, F-18, Apache), etc...
The only decent one left is DCS[^].

I second Janes F-15. Old, but still really really fun. Great mission builder too.

Well, since I've actually been in a real F-16, one may state I am more than an "armchair" pilot.
In sincerity, there's nothing like the real thing.
But, we both know that; though, I a wee bit more than "knowing" than you.
Yet, we must, again, visit my orig sentence.
Yes, I've been *in* a real F-16. BUT ... my Cub Scout master was an F-16 pilot who took us on a tour of the Base, of which included that of us being privy to sit in the F-16's seat. 40 years ago, yet it feels like it was just an hour ago ... what a rush!
I, too, would like to learn of a modern decent Combat Flight-Sim.
And one that supports 10 monitors, literally.
Though, 4 monitors would suffice.

sadly, the era of the flight sim seems to be over, especially when it comes to the jets. If its not massively player online, they don't get much traction.

More you fight, the better the planes, etc.

That would be kind of awesome when you think about it. Imagine Team death match with F-16's.
I will admit that it is kind of fun when flying IRL to go on the radio and state, "Maverick is going supersonic"

Oh yes. I've always wondered about that line, "I'm going supersonic..." who cares, get in here and get this guy off my 6. 
The downside of immersive flight sims is that things get complicated in a hurry (flying the F16 with it's pickle joy stick is one of the harder things to master). It all pulls away from the fun factor.
I can just see 32 F16s merging with cannons and AIM-9Xs. Short and violent.

Tom Clancy's HAWX 1 & 2 aren't terrible for modern games. Fun, but not terribly realistic.

Have a look at Falcon BMS. It's a heavily updated version of Flacon 4.0. You need the original Falcon 4.0 .EXE to run it though.
The only other one that's left that's worth anything is the DCS series. I'm flying the A-10C and it's nothing short of awsome!

You have DCS? I'm thinking about pulling the trigger (no pun intended) on that, but didn't want to until I knew if it plays decent on current hardware? I always remember back in the day that sims always pushed performance limits. I have a decent gaming rig, but the graphics and avionics of DCS look so over the top that I figured I'd be getting like 3 FPS out of it.

My rig is 3 years old, with a couple of old Radeon 4870HDs in CrossFire and it plays just fine.

Dave, I tried the download page. I registered but when I log in and go there I get a message
"you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
1.Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2.If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation."
Any thoughts on this?

I'm a real pilot if that counts. Private Pilot and complex endorsement working on my high performance. As soon as summer gets here I'm going to take a beginner aerobatics course and I'll also start my IFR training.
I've played the Hawx games and they were descent, I think I also played the Falcon games.
If you want to add a real-world spin, you can always try Air Combat USA[^]. As soon as they get local enough, I'm going to sign up.

Back in 1997, I had a Macintosh PowerPC and one game: F/A 18 Hornet.
I had SO much fun with that game, although the graphics really sucked, the realism and aircraft handling was spot on!
Missions, scenarios and training were well balanced and well developed. It even had aircraft carriers on which you could takeoff and land.

I use Combat Flight Simulator 3 from *gasp* Microsoft and it works pretty well on my Win7 machine even though it says it doesn't. The weird thing is that my MS Force Feedback pro 2 joystick no longer feeds back force - it still does on an old XP system - it's the Win7 drivers that don't support it anymore!
