I have the full version not just the format recovert version but only tried it on a test case, never a real case.
Seemed to work ok for the test case.

I'm working with a friend on a writing project. She needs a few words in Greek for an alternate history, but my knowledge is pretty limited. I've come up with what I think are the words she needs, but I'd like some feedback before handing them off.
έξοδείγμος (m), έξοδείγμα (f), έξοδείγματα (pl) - The main pivot point where the timelines diverged were six heroes (four men, two women) who defeated The Thing, a Cthulhu-level evil being, around 3 BC. I constructed the word out of δειγμα, "example", and έξο-, "beyond," to mean an example beyond the norm. In the English of the day, it is translated as "Paragon."
ἀρετή - The Paragons became the inspiration of a religion. The equivalent of saints in this faith have the title "arete." The word is a noun meaning "virtue" and can be used as an adjective and as a noun meaning someone who exemplifies a virtue. If this is a reasonable use, does the word have different male and female forms, and what would be the plural?
μετά έξοδείγματα - The calendar system starts with the defeat of The Thing. I believe this would mean "after the Paragons" and is noted in English as ME. Προτού έξοδείγματα would mean "before the Paragons" and be noted in English as PE. These are the equivalent of AD and BC in our timeline.
That should be it; I'm confident about the other words. How'd I do?

And I thought it's called Padawan. Like in the famous story Cthulhu versus Jedi-Knights!

I just asked one of my Greek friends here - she could read the words and exclaimed "wow, that's pretty deep"... she said she didn't recognise the words in their own right, but the meaning conveyed made sense... Hope that helps.

εξοδειγμα is not a valid greek word. Perhaps you mean υπόδειγμα (=example, pattern)
an example beyond the norm: not sure if I understand precisely, υπερφυσικός->sth beyond normal, supernatural
αρετή -> virtue, noun. As adjective you can use ενάρετος (male) ενάρετη (female), plural : αρετές (valid greek) a non common adjective is πανάρετος, πανάρετη
ενάρετος who has virtue πανάρετος who was all types of virtue, usually referring to God or alternative meaning of God
after -> μετά
before -> προ(typical, common) , προτού(less) Before Apocalypse -> Προ αποκάλυψης BC =Προ Χριστού (Before Christ)

Many thanks, this is the information I needed.
Added: My dictionary give the translation of υπό- as "under" or "beneath." In English, this preposition can be used to indicate inferior quality. Its use in Greek is different? The sense I'm looking for is "supreme example" or "a most worthy person." I have also thought of using the ancient Greek ἥρως, in the mythological sense.
|
|
|
|
|
υπό has that meaning when is used as the first part of a compound word. υπό-γειο (->underground) as under
It can also be used with to indicate a negative aspect like υπ-άνθρωπος (subhuman) ->inferior quality
ήρως (in common ήρωας for male, ηρωίδα female) seems a good choice
