If txtValorUnitario.Text does not hold a valid double, then the value in valorUnitario is set to zero and false is returned. (See MSDN: double.TryParse[^])
(I was wrong, I forgot it's an out parameter, so the value won't be preserved if the conversion fails - it will be zeroed.)

Sorry if this is not the right place to ask about this.
I want to program a digital pet in Linux (it will run in a Raspberry Pi) but there is a long time I don't use C++. In fact I love C# and I am familiar with XNA.
For that reason I am thinking about monodevelop. The problem is that I need to manage microphone input (if possible voice recongnition), webcam input and maybe I will add some sensors like inclination.
Stuff like collision detection is not needed.
Is monodevelop suitable for doing this? Do you recommend C++ better? Thank you.

Mono is fairly decent these days however that doesn't mean it will lead to success for your goals.
You would need to be fairly comfortable in linux. I suspect strongly that you might need to know interop and you might need to do some C++ programming regardless.

I've got Mono running on my Pi, including ASP.NET and MySQL. Works quite good. There's also a GPIO library[^] to control the general purpose port on the Pi. That's probably where you'd want to hook up the sensors. Although it runs Mono fine (4.0 compatible), I wouldn't recommend installing MonoDevelop and running a desktop on the system. It's easier to prototype on Windows using .NET and to copy the result (using FTP) to the Pi.

Not all webcams[^] are supported. Didn't test mine yet. However, I doubt that it's fast enough to provide voice recognition.

I'd recommend looking for a "robot project" as an example, as it has most of the components you said you'd require. Looks like example number four[^] proves that the Pi is capable of process voice-commands.

arash you are asking to be educated in the art of developing a web site in a forum message, this cannot be done. You need to get a book, find some development tutorials and work through them to gain a modicum of knowledge.
When you have done that and you have specific questions about coding then come back and ask them!

I recently picked up a slightly used XBox Kinect sensor and would like to play around with it using C# in Windows XP.
Since its XP and I dont want to upgrade to Win7, this rules out use of the MS Kinect Windows SDK.
Sofar, I tried a OpenNI 2 which does not recognize my Kinect sensor. It works a little better with CLNUI but Im not getting video and the software locks up hard after a short while.
Before trying other alternatives such as SimpleOpenNI or OpenNinect, I'd like to know what others with experiences of getting this to work in Windows XP think would be the best option.

What type of visual studio 2010 C# project would you create for an application that is to run automatically at a pre-set time interval? No user interface is needed, this application is to be primarally used to run database procedures at set intervals.

You want to create a service or an application that is run as a scheduled task.

2 approaches - wiether a simple exe scheduled by the windows scheduler, or, start with a Service - depending on the other requirements, eg timing, I might use Quartz.Net, definately a logging layer, and maybe some way of communicating with the service for status info

You might not need a C# project at all.
Just run a job on SQL Server.

Thank you all for the feedback. I'm going to read up on Windows Service applications to see if that will do the trick. I am working with a SQL Anywhere database.The application will consist of logging into the database and running a procedure at a predetermined interval.

If it's a cross domain issue (and see other posts - suspect not), then there's nothing you can do on your side....the owner of the service / site needs to accept the correct headers (AccessControl-AllowDomain etc).
If this service is intended to be called externally, then they must have added them already though!
C# has already designed away most of the tedium of C++.

You would the call it by Namespace.Class.Stringname (correct me if I am wrong), but I am pretty sure that is correct if that is what you are referring to.
