In late May I just left Portugal to embrace a new challenge in Switzerland.
It's been great on it's own but watching the news it was clearly the best decision I haver made.
Was not an easy one tho. I had to leave behind everything I ever knew for 35 years as being my habitat, my familly, my son, my friends, my "secure", technologically challenging and well payed (for the standards) job but yet again, it worths all the way.
Leaving your conffort zone is hard, and it's really easy to find an convincing excuse not to but if you're not happy with what you have, quit complaining and work your way out as soon as possible.
GO!!

Agree with you completely, its not easy to come out of your comfort zone. But if you are ambitious and want growth, i feel change is must.

Guess it's better not to change jobs here and there so your career records will be good..

And what about if the firm where you are is not challenging you, the job you have to do is boring, you are stuck in a position for the rests...
It is not so nice to see someone that has changed firm 4 or 5 times in 3 years, I agree with that. But if you are young and started to work 3 or 4 changes in 10 years is not bad. You are developing your skills and learning different methodes from different places.
If you are so lucky that you have the job of your dreams at the first moment... perfect. But if not... to change is the only thing you have.

But it also effects the growth and you are more tuned to the comfort zone. Frequent change is bad, but accepting good growth with a break is good.

As self employed, I can't see what I do as a job, it is so various that I voted "Who knows".
I'm doing training stuff, consulting stuff, development stuff, and sometimes entreprenarial stuff.
That's all .NET, but for I can't call it a job.
I don't know on what I will work tomorrow, nor with who, so don't ask me 1 month in advance, at least life is not boring ! (I also almost never accept any work more than 2 weeks ahead)

My girlfriend got a resident place in a hospital over 200km away from where we lived. I would like to stay where I am. It is stressy but I like the firm where I work, we have a lot of freedom, we are all in similar ages (most between 25 and 35), there is always some fun at work...
But, on the other hand... If I want to continue with the relationship I have, I will probably search for another thing. We already are 1 month like this and it is not so nice as I would wish.
So I will need to decide about what I do as soon as I finish the actual project.

That is a tough one. I have sort of the same thing going on, except my wife (we got married last month) lives in Mexico, a good 1.5 hour drive from my house in San Diego.
My boss and coworkers have been unbelievably understanding ever since our relationship got serious over 4 years ago. I spend about half my time in Mexico, telecommuting and doing my development from there. It helps that I have been working with the same guys since 2001 and long ago proved my worth.
I do occasionally get unsolicited job offers with promise of a considerable raise, but I feel I owe the guys and I am sure I would not have the same range of freedom with a different company.

Yeah, I am willing to arrange something like that with my firm. The worst thing is, I am developer for the industry (mainly PLC and Robot) so I have to go to the machines to the installation and production tests.
I am 5 years in the firm, I know I am good and I know they know it as well. I know too, that I am not going to have the same freedom in other places (this year I had 4 months vacations, I don't have to stamp any card, I can manage my own worktime...)
But family is family.

When Mrs Wife and I were still courting, I got transferred to Singapore. I was making monthly round trips to spend long weekends at home with her.
Then I spent two years working in the UK when she was still in Budapest, I went home every weekend and things survived.
Last year she was back in Hungary and I stayed in the UK, again going home every weekend.
It was never easy being apart, but we made it work because we wanted [and still do want] it to work.

Looking for a good break. Ever since 2010 after left my full time position in India, a string of stigma is haunting seriously, which is jeopardizing my mental tranquility to the greatest extent that could be envisaged by normal human brain.
At the moment, remuneration is not a concern but just peace of mind sans which my peace is being torn into pieces.

I currently only have about 3.5mo of work locked in and because my employer's a govt contractor if the idiots in Washington continue to point spiting the other party ahead of fixing the federal budget and let sequestration bite it could get ugly.
