For a time, while I was playing in Dreamweaver this week, my site appeared in a browser as centered on the screen, even though it has a fixed width. That's how I want it to appear. But last night I changed a single width attribute in the style page for the BODY element, and now the whole thing is shifted to the left side of the browser window. Is there a way to "float" the entire page to be centered in the window, regardless of size?

Roger, use
margin: auto; to the body tag this way you let the browser figure out where it should centre positioned irrespective of the browser window size.
Of course, you could also use
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto; to the body tag to get the same effect.

But if a user has scripting turned off, or the css file is not available for whatever reason, neither will help, but you could effect the same by wrapping the whole of the webpage in a table tag
<table border="0" align="center"> your webpage content </table>

I tried the margin:auto method; it doesn't work. I wish I could recall exactly what I changed to modify the behavior... Thanks for the idea, though!

Use Firebug on Firefox or Google Developer Tools on Google Chrome. Inspect the elements etc to establish what your page is doing, and you may do non-destructive editing to many of the elements while displayed in the browser. And perhaps use something like TortoiseSVN so you can wind-back time (so to speak)

I've got a nice template laid out in Dreamweaver, but Adobe support for menus sucks. I want to build a nice menu structure in Visual Studio, then import it into my Adobe project. Is this going to break everything?
I note that the Dreamweaver site has none of the many extra folders that Visual Studio creates automagically. I'm concerned that trying to switch between IDEs on the same site will do something awful and hard to fix. Need I be concerned?
If the answer to either is 'yes', can someone guide me in the proper way to do this without having everything I've done so far blow up?

The simple thing about HTML is its plain text. You can write an web-base application in simple text editor.
Now talk about Dreamweaver:
what does it do actually?
It gives you a way to design in view level. i.e. you drag and drop your button, text, input box. and in the background Dreamweaver create the related css, html, javascript behind.
Same thing about Visual Studio. Not much deference(i mean in working).
So, if you know how you can integrate the code then no worry just do it

I want to add a variable to a css class. Is it possile? I mean I want to do something like the following:

}
I understand this may not be the right syntax, but I hope you can help me achieve the concept setting my class' properties up to a variable value.

This is something that a lot of people want, and it will likely be available in future releases of CSS. Right now, though, this is not possible.
What you can probably do, though, is give your objects a class name -- say, flexiblePadding_x, then have a bit of Javascript that runs when the page is loaded searches for all elements having "flexiblePadding_" in their class, makes a note of x, removes the class and adds the appropriate style to the element. It will be a bit of work, but it should get you the results you want.

I'm using version Google Maps Control V1.8, which by default uses Google map version 2 i want to update the Google map to version 3 when trying to set the property apiversion to "3" nothing happens>

Hello all,
Is it possible to pass data between web pages using just html and not javascript or any other scripting language? I have searched the web but I did not find anything that is helpful, all I saw were passing data between pages using dotnet, javascript, php, etc. Please point me in the right direction, thanks.

Html is there only for content display purpose.
From your question, it seems that you are too new to web development.
You may need to explain what exactly you are trying to achieve and why you are so reluctant to use other languages like php, asp etc which is free and all browser supports it.
If you wish, Just google "State Management in LANGUAGE_NAME", and you will get a lot of ways(depend on which language you want).

You would have to either pass it as parameters in the URL or use a <form> block. Both options have drawbacks: URLs are limited to 255 characters, which makes parameters very awkward if you have a lot of data, and form data would have to submitted manually, by having the user click on a button. Keep in mind that pure HTML is just layout and display with no processing capabilities, and that HTML pages are stateless (they exist only for the moment and are recreated from scratch every time the page is reloaded.) That is why all of your solutions involve Javascript, ASP or some other processing language able to save data between page loads.

I have a web site www.xyz.com. There is a link in this site to the registration page and I need to display that link only to the user who are coming from a particular site www.abc.com. when a user will come to your site from other site it will also carry some data from that site, such as cookies. you can try to use those cookies, but this is not a very good solution. not even secure.

Debugging a Web Site using Visual Studio
I am studying a web site that caught my eye by making a test site privately. Since the original html and CSS and JavaScript code is on a Windows Server and since I am making a test version on a Linux server, there are issues with missing links because of case sensitivity.
Anyway, this is he point. When I load the test website, I get an error message that some file cannot be found. Because of the size and all the connections and files, it is difficult to track down what file is missing or misnamed file. Now, I think there is a way to easily find out exactly what file is not found. I think there is a way to do this using Visual Studio test classes and projects. Am I right?

first make sure you are getting all the errors. you need to configure in php.ini file.
and if the file is missing then you can read the name of the file on the error message finally you wont get any help from visual studio cause I guess you are using php or cgi

I managed to get past all this and I have loaded most of the web site now.
The next step is to find some way to step through the web site. How do I use visual studio to debug an html index page and step through the code?
