I tried to add a reference to Watin.Core.dll, and got this
The project targets '.NETCore' while the file reference targets '.NETFramework'. This is not a supported scenario
I looked on Watin.org and didn't see version for Win 8.
Anyone know of an alternative that would work in Win 8 & pass cert?

Hi all. I'm working through the architecture for an ASP.NET MVC 3 solution. I like using LINQ and will probably use the entity framework against a SQL database as the persistence repository. I've seen a lot of examples now where a controller will send lambda expressions to the repository object as a way of indicating a filter, rather than having a specific function declared in the repository interface for the filter scenario. This seems convenient, and performs well as long as you have a LINQ-to-entities or LINQ-toSql compliant repository.
I started down that path, but I'm now concerned that it doesn't separate the concerns as much as it should. In the event a new repository layer was needed, one would need to build/implement something that can work with the lambda expressions (e.g construct SQL from the expression tree, or otherwise implementing IQueryable). Otherwise the use of LINQ would require loading a full set into memory from the datastore, potentially killing performance.
My question is this: is this a valid concern? Or is the support for LINQ-enabled repositories strong enough among enough database systems that the convenience of LINQ outweighs the coupling concern?

I have to access some of data through webservices. The web services done by c++ which is hosted on linux machine. Normally when we consuming the webservices, we can do the add web reference. but in that case, we know only the ip address and port of the hosted server. How can i consuming that webservice method directly using visual studio 2008.
Currently we know the methods of the web service, so just create sample web services in asp.net (*.asmx). then consuming that methods in our application, then changed the URL.
Please provide correct way to consume that.

I Think you should enter a regular request path(IP:Port/servicepath) that requests the service in the URL field. being the web service developed using C++ and hosted on Linux should make no deference being the service return a text/xml response and the wizard does the remaining stuff.

Instead of creating proxy to web service,
you can try using Http Post/Get using HttpWebRequest/HttpWebResponse (WebRequest class in System.Net) to post a request to web service and receive response from the same. Hope it helps.

Hello,
The user is given a text box to enter text. What would we need to do, to allow user to save the text along with HTML tags? VS 2010 is not allowing this due to security reasons. Is there a way we can save text like Testing?
We are trying to save this test to the database.

Not enough information. If all you want to do is save some text to a database that is simple as would be saving to a file: there are thousands of examples of how to do this both here and through Google. What do you mean by HTML tags? Where are they from? The page itself? You need to be clear about what you are trying to do though I have to say this does sound liek homework even though you say 'we'.

I experienced that problem also: the text in the text box contained html tags (<b>Testing</b>), and I received some security warnings. Sorry that I do not remember how I resolved that, but I can confirm the existence of the problem.

I am trying to access a Java web service from an ASP.NET application written under Visual Studio 2010. If I just try to retrieve the WSDL using the URL (modified for security) below I receive the error that follows.

It works but it slide(open) all div in datalist on click s1 div.
How to open div respective to s1 div at a time.

I think you should find something unique to identify the div.
for example
modify the s1 div to be run at server(this would give it unique values of id every single instant).
then add the id to the JQuery selector

Nowhere did you set the Host, Port, EnableSsl, and Credentials properties of the SmtpClient. It must fail because of that.
Next, some mail providers check that the From property of the MailMessage is the address of the user identified by the UserName of the Credentials - in case of doubt, they'll refuse to send the mail.

Hi
i am running wcf service in IIS, when i make a POST request from the rest client with .net development environment server i am getting the break points hit and the service is responding but when i am accessing through IIS URL(http://localhost//Service/service.msc) it fails and i am not getting break points hit and getting message
HTTP/1.1 404 Object Not Found .
i am confused that why the service is not responding when i accessed the iis deployed service.
it will be very helpful if i am getting out from this issue.

Are you running the client on the same machine as the server? If not the localhost in the url is wrong.
Also the url contains two forward-slashes where they should not be: http://localhost//Service/service.msc
I assume this is a typo, but thought it worth mentioning just in case.

sorry typo error when composing a message but my REST client is having the following URL
http://localhost/Service/service.msc
Even i tried from different machine with the following
http://172.29.xxx.xx/Service/service.msc
In both scenarios i am getting the following page saying my service living but not able to post a request.
