While I can ignore him, it's hard for the OP to ignore when he comes along and tries to convince them that his is the only right answer, even when it doesn't actually answer the question that was asked, but rather presents this Utopian ideal of the question that should have been asked.
I have asked him to stop this behaviour before - heck, a lot of us have, but he continues with this behaviour.

Good for you. I just hope Chris is seeing the fuss that this is causing as well as the positive votes that everyone on this thread is receiving, which I think just shows the feeling amongst members that SA is generating.

I delete any reply or comment that does not serve a genuine and helpful purpose. Member name and rank means nothing to me in this arena. People come here to get help. If they are trolls, spammers, or trouble makers then show them the door.
IMHO, you don't need our approval for your actions if your actions are in the best interest of the site.

I've largely stopped posting in Q&A too, for exactly the reasons Pete outlined. OK, my few answers per day are not a huge loss to the community, but there are others who have had problems (see this thread[^]) and at least one other person has stopped answering.
Its not just this "Sheriff of London Town" attitude, but also the "See My Answer" thing, as if there is something incorrect or even deficient about the answer he is commenting on, which often there isn't. Like Pete I'd hoped he was in some sort of larval stage and would calm down, but a quick squizz at his recent replies shows this isn't the case.

Which is a pity (in Pete's case too), as it's a loss to both the site (lots of people value your comments/opinions/answers), and the people who post questions. Sometimes a question can have more than one answer, and it's that multiplicity of information which is most useful to the questioners, and the rest of us who learn new things as we wander by.

To be honest, I prefer the discussion boards for this reason, though these are now naturally much slower as Q&A has taken up most of the burden.

Bill, I try to do my bit with some of these questions via editing them for Appearance, Syntax, Grammar etc as this may often help to clarify and enlighten those that may wish to answer.
It is often easy to forget that many visitors do not have English as a first language and the fact that they have struggled enough converting into as good an attempt as they have done needs respecting. I am sure that their English is better than my Arabic, Urdu, Chinese etc.
If they lack precise details I always give a pointer, along the lines of "Do you mean...such and such? If so then...whatever, otherwise please be a little more detailed in order to get a better response".
It only takes a little thought and the whole process is easier and much more pleasant.
I will not join in the Ad Hom Attacks on certain members.
SAK may rile some of the more tenderfoots, but he at least does give good service generally and puts in a lot of effort.
Perhaps #1 could just have a quiet word in his shell like then we could all move on.

I think you might be slightly missing the point here. The comments he posts don't always help the poster of the original question - you might have answered their question, but where he butts in with this is the answer to the question that should have been asked, could end up confusing the OP. What ends up happening is a comments bickering which does no one any favours. For that reason, to quote Duncan Bannatyne, I'm out.

As someone that tries to answer question on the QA for furthering of my knowledge / troubleshooting skills I have to admit, while there are a few people that I do pay detailed attention to, his comments have become more blunt (insert more appropriate word here!) I feel lately.

I also have written perhaps a few hundred comments on QA original posts, asking the OP to clarify what technology is used, what they mean by use of certain terms, etc. Some of these comments have been lengthy.
And some have been followed by dialogs in comments with the OP which, gradually, sorted out what they meant. At the times my efforts at clarifying led someone else to post a good solution that was accepted, I always feel good
I respect SAK's intelligence, and his obvious depth in computer science; the reservations I have expressed here, while having an immediate focus on SAK's current "big red" behavior ... because I think it's disruptive ... and completely inappropriate within the QA forums ... are not intended as an attack on his character or his "soul" !
But, I have tried to focus on the larger issue beyond the behavior of one member which is, to me:
How can we create a non-intrusive, friendly, facility, for QA, that will clarify questions at the moment they are asked about such basic issues as whether its WPF or WinForms, or ASP.NET, etc.
Let me ask, rhetorically: what person with a real question they want answered would object to checking a checkbox or two, or making a selection from a DropDown ListBox, which then would enable their question to be posted ?
If JSOP were around, I'd suggest we call that the "head 'em off at the pass" strategy

Looks like you quoted an opening HTML tag but not the closing (or vice versa), and since our script to quote text is very literal (it quotes exactly what you provide) you can get issues where it crosses boundaries. I'll make a note to clean up its act.

Hello All ,
First of all thanks for running this site. I got usefull answer to the tech related question I had . Thanks again.
While my searching towards what we can do best with regards to appreciation for member posting reply , answer on question , reply on answer , I came up with new feature which we could add in this forum.
We are seeing number of question posted by CP members on this forum. so of them are not clearly stated or some time happen that not a valid question. Someone post a reply on to this question saying that "Not a valid question" Or some thing like "did you have orginal question ?" and some good reply that would say you have to do this so that you can get better answer in quick time span.
Here we can provide feature through which we can vote the reply .

Are you asking for the ability to vote for replies to questions? If so, you already can.
If you are talking about voting on the comments associated with questions and answers, then yes, this will be...enabled. (We have plans. Dastardly plans)
