I have an intern updating our website, which was tossed together by people who know nothing about websites using Web Expressions. The intern is using Dreamweaver - the latest and greatest just installed today - to do this work, but I expect problems when she starts the project. Heck, I tried updating this same site a year ago using Visual Studio, and it couldn't open the thing. What can I do to make this painless for the lady?

I'm surprised it couldn't be opened in VS though. I've gone back and forth between Expression and VS for several projects, though they were Silverlight and WPF applications.

I’m working on creating a toolbar plugin for Internet Explorer. I can find many examples and tutorials to get me started but nothing on one particular piece of functionality I'd like to implement.
What I’d like is a small pop up window displaying information to appear when I click one of the buttons on my toolbar. I want it to look similar to the "browser action" pop ups that can be displayed by a Chrome extension or the popups that appear when you click "Suggested Sites" and "Web Slice Gallery" in IE9. I envisage creating the popup's contents in HTML but I am prepared to use anything that works.
If anybody can direct me towards a tutorial or an example or offer any other advice then it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm very confused by some strange behaviour I'm having with formatting on the default browser on my Android phone (it's running ICS). I haven't tried it on other smartphones. I'm assuming it's a bug, but I suppose there's the chance that it's not (although it seems unlikely).
If I have something like this:

</div>
Then (if the text is long enough) the text doesn't extend the whole div but only around 1/3 or 1/2 of the way (and wraps around the shortened width). However, if I change it to this:
<div style="background-color: #fff;">
Lots of text here
</div>
The text does extend the whole div and wraps around. The only difference is that I set the background-color property. Is there a proper "accepted" way to avoid this behaviour in the first case? Explicitly setting the background-color to transparent does not fix the problem.

Did you test it on IE?
You didn't mention the browser name
there is several more issues:
background-color- i dont know about it
I use background all the time
and hexa value should have to be 6 bytes i.e.

They are both using correct syntax - "background" is shorthand for all the individual background properties[^] and there are several ways you can specify colours in CSS, including 3 or 6 digit hex RGB: CSS colour reference[^]

I am currently developing my own Google Chrome extension right now. My extension has the functionality to save and retrieve user data(bookmarks, browser preferences) from a local storage in a computer. Right now there are tools and technologies I am considering to use for the development of the said extension. Which brings us to my question:
I know for sure that PHP can be responsible for the file handling which includes storing and retrieving of browser data. My concern is that the security of the written file. Is it possible to put the written text file in a folder which is locked? Is it possible to make that folder account-controlled meaning for the folder to be accessed there should be username and password to be entered? What tool or technology can handle this?

I need to implement sales web site for a small business, with very basic functionality such as home page with news etc., about us, product into, and ordering and payment. While I would ultimately love to re-code this wheel myself, I am sure one of the many capable CMS packages out there will get the job done much quicker and better.
My first two choices are Drupal and Umbraco. I know ASP.NET well, but my PHP is coming along fine, and I think it will be easier to find hosting for my client for Drupal than for Umbraco.
What recommendations can you readers make here?

+1 for Drupal. I've used it, and it's very quick to throw together a simple site. Contributed modules to do almost anthing you want (and many you don't want!  ) You can almost certainly do what you need without cutting a single line of PHP (although knowing PHP helps you understand what's really going on.) Plenty of online tutorials, too.
Never heard of Umbraco, so I can't offer an opinion.

AspxCommerce will probably suit you best. It is a promising open source content management system specifically designed for E-Commerce and developed using ASP.NET technology. I am pretty sure that your needs will be met. Take a look at it at www.aspxcommerce.com .

Hi, I have the following script, which is working fine. This is for more-less content. For more content, this is good, but when i click again, text becomes less again, but i want to add one class name for the less button.

Hi,
I am basically a desktop app developer, and for last 1 year I'm into mobility domain, working on apps, and multimedia.
I have very good grip on C, C++ and basically know some HTML, I also have good knowledge of Database query languages.
I'm planning to come up with a website, which is basically like a social networking site facebook, but to be meant for different reason ( Sorry, I can't discuss on that ).
I don't have much knowledge in web development. but I'm confident that I can work on, HTML, JavaScript,PHP.
So can please someone help me ,
1) What technologies should I start.
2) How these networking sites are built, with user login etc.
3) Is there any helping documents which I can refer to.
4) What database technologies that I should learn.
I am not really worried about the time. I hope you people help me in this regard.

This would allow you to get a website up and running in very short amount of time.
Download the evaluation copy, get yourself some books on DotNetNuke and really give it some consideration. I used it at a previous company (internal project) and was amazed.
There are also many companies out there that host DNN for you if you don't have a web server and a static IP address.
