I'm developing a website for my company and have run into a formatting issue that I cannot resolve. I know different browser's can format the same page different ways, so from the start I had two different CSS files; one for Chrome and one for IE8. The webpage displays correctly on all the computers my office in Chrome. However on some computer the webpage is not displaying correctly in IE8.
All the computers are Windows XP SP2 running IE8. All the browsers are running in the same mode (Standards Mode). Some of the computer are running in different resolutions, however I tried all the resolution settings on each of the computer and the page still displays the same way.
The problem is I have a section of HTML wrapped in a tag called "page". In the CSS file for IE8 I have the following code:

Now on the computer where the page is not displaying properly, the "page" element in shifted upwards and I need to change the margin-top: -388px; to margin-top: -310px;. I can't figure out what the position is 70px different between computers with the same OS, browsers, and resolution. I was hoping that I can auto detect something and change the CSS in my code-behind, however they are all running the exact same version of IE, so I don't know what I could detect.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. We are supposed to go live the weekend, but my company wants this fixed and I just don't have an answer to why this is occur. Thanks in advance for any help.

P.S. I only have the border element so that way I could track the element during testing. When the site goes live the border will be removed.

Ensure that compatibility button in the address bar is not activated so that the page is render for IE 8 and not a previous version.

Could anyone tell me what are the technologies needed to build a client support software (which processes, organizes, manages client emails) from scratch? I wonder if we can use CMS tools like Drupal or Joomla associated with PHP to realize a such project. Your answers will be very appreciated.

You can use any of present day technologies like .net, java, php, sharepoint. Depending up on time line you choose your technology. Drupal or Joomla with php are pretty good. Please check security and performance as main constrains while take such projects.

I am sure you know that when sending an email to windows live it will now show the pictures but it will instead display the following message in the alert bar:
Attachments, pictures and links in this message have been blocked for your safety.
However, I have seen some emails coming from some domains and I didn't need to do anything to display the images as it was displayed automatically.
How can I make sure emails going from my domain will be display the images automatically without showing the notification bar?

Hi,
I just try to place a flash file in my site, but I see I get the 404 error.
I have looked for the flash file on the server and it exist, so I don't thinks it's the issue.

Nice attempt  but spelling is not the issue. I found the real problem - it was the swf file on the server. The file was hidden, and when I unchecked the hidden checkbox, it got to work fine.
You think that there is a chance that the file was hidden deliberately ?

Hard to do it accidentally, unless they meant for it to be read-only and checked the wrong box.
Or many company policy forbids media files and someone was sneaky...

I wonder if logging into the server as the IIS account (if you can find or set the password), and setting "Show Hidden Files" in explorer would do it... I don't know.

which i guess it's the default?

are you asking if you should use it and if so what pages?? if so then my response would be that you use it for web pages where you don't want a web crawler indexing that page. I don't know your content and as such that is really a question only you can answer or someone in your group who is playing the role of an SEO.

so you mean I will NOT include it in a page which I want it to be indexed by the search engine and ONLY inlcude it as NO INDEX if I don't it be index by search engine?
this means search engine will by default crawl the pages?

read the article that was posted by @Mark and if needed do some googling about robots and web crawlers.
just remember that the steps you put in place are only followed by those that implement the idea of these best practices. there is no hard and fast rule that says the pages won't be indexed.

in many website I see the links for contact page as an example showing as www.domain.com/contact NOT www.domain.com/contact.aspx or www.domain.com/contact.php
I am wondering how do they do it? is it a separate folder for contact?

you will fine that when you search for Microsoft in Google it will only list the home page and below that it will list some of the main pages (something like a menu).
I am not sure what do you call that but I would like to ask how can I make the same in my website?
