Siri itself is revolutionary because we know barely that anything Apple produces has an impact on people's mind. They will think that it is needed and that need will make engineers work more about it and the latter stages of voice recognition and AI will be available soon.

To be fair to Siri I didn't know what the guy in the second video was asking until the 5th or 6th time he said it.

The words are shown on the video to help you decipher what he's saying. (This is my neck of the woods and I struggle, so Siri, hasn't got a hope in hell).

The "closed captioning" was just spelling out phonetically what the guy was saying. Many of those sounds were not words, or at least not words in the English language.
Siri doesn't stand a chance, but I think Siri is in good company there. I assume if you typed those words into a google search you would only get one result, a link to that video...

Voice recognition and the AI in the new iPhone aren't new, but neither is a lot of what Apple does. They are not necessarily revolutionary, they just know how to package things, put a shiny bow on them, and market them to mostly non-techie hipsters.

For normal people that can afford the Apple tax. Not saying that Apple hasn't done a lot for bringing the computing world to the public, I'm just not a drinker of the kool-aid.

I guess many people think Apples prices are "rich" but they get not the cheaper stuff working. Not everyone has a nerd at place.

My 5, its been out about a week, so I expect most folk here haven't seen it in proper use yet.
I have heard it has problems with regional accents in the UK though.

I do believe it is the best implementation of voice recognition released to the masses yet. At least, it seems surprisingly difficult to fool, and the natural language capabilities appear pretty impressive.
I just don't know how much I'd use it. I can ask my current iPhone what time it is, or what song is playing, or to google something (using Google's app), but I always feel like a complete tool when I do it (when I talk to my phone it's usually just to annoy my wife).
I'll find out for sure in a few weeks when my new 4S arrives.

Just what I was thinking. It is implemented really well, but it is really just successfully implementing concepts that have been around for quite a while.
I wasn't, now I am, then I won't be anymore.

LOL! I second that!
Everyone is all about this voice recognition, but think of how it can affect some of us with weird accents!
I spent most of my time when speaking to a Voice Recognition Program when I need to speak to my Mortgage provider repeating what I had said, until I realised, the best way to make it understand what I said, I spoke like Hugh Grant, and it worked!
Seems as though it only wants to work with people who have posh English Accents, and not your general Midlands Speak! 
All though I don't really care about the iPhone 4 voice recognition, I do wonder if it does understand most English accents! Otherwise there are going to be a lot of strange happenings in the streets of England when using the Voice Recognition, and having to pretend to be Hugh Grant!
