Hi,
OK I sorted an external hosting site that will allow hot linking and not delete the files after a period of inactivity. The problem I have now is that in such a case I won't receive any points for downloads. That's 60 odd already and it's only been up 2 hours. I take it I'm in a situation of like it or lump it??? Sniff | :^)

I am currently writing an article on an automated/one-click online update class and application.
The article is based on something I use in a larger context - automatically rolling out online updates without using ClickOnce.

I have a couple of questions:

(a)Do you think this will be of interest to people? - I ask this because I am aware that many developers use ClickOnce.
(b)If the answer to (a) is yes - Would someone be willing to look at my article so far and provide me with some feedback (I can pass on the URL of where the article is presently stored).

I shall put some more work into tidying it up and submit it through the template and editor route(I noticed typos and and the article needs some work on it first).

I posted the question as I felt I was re-inventing the wheel - however I now realise sometimes it's a good thing to re-invent the wheel when it comes to software.

Hello,
Am new here and am somewhat curious. Is it possible for one's article rating to go down after being UPVOTED? Anything like negative votes or weights?
My article Genetic Algorithm - A 'Walt Disney' Introduction[^] had a rating of 4.80. It was later upvoted twice (both 5's) and is now 4.65. Can someone please edify me?

If you have a number of votes of 5 from Bronze-level members and a Gold level member votes a 4, then your overall rating might go down.

Hi all, and apologies if this question gets asked a lot.

I submitted a tip (Type aliasing in using declarations) on friday and it is still in a pending status.

- How long to tips normally take to get approved?
- If there is any improvement necessary in the tip where should i be looking for feedback from the approvers?

Please forgive my slight impatience and put it down to an over-eager newbie to CP (it's my first submission so I'm curious to see if its up to scratch)

You probably need to add some more information to the tip before it will be approved. As it stands, it's fairly lightweight and you haven't sufficiently clarified when you need to do this, e.g. where you have name clashes between classes in multiple namespaces. If you really want your tip to shine, try adding in a bit of IL to show what the underlying effect of doing this is - low level details always go down well.

I have now fleshed it out a little and added the IL to demonstrate that the alias is purely pre-compilation

And that gets you your first vote for approval. Unfortunately, you need 4 more votes I believe before it gets promoted.

I'm working on an article at the moment and I'm finding that there are lots of interesting little side notes - often the additional knowledge is helpful to those more familiar with the subject, but overkill to those who are reading through for the first time. Ideally I'd like to be able to put these in some form of call out box thingie, much like you might find in a Dummies book. Not that I would admit to reading a Dummies book you understand.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to what sort of markup I can use for this sort of callout box, as I am aware that extra markup would normally be removed on submission?
