Some form of game is a good idea, for it shows you understand GUIs, General Programming, Threads and Timers.
It can be expanded upon to give online high score tsbles etc.

Time and again some guys ask for code for their homework. Sometimes quite interesting projects.
One of them was an application for sharing photos with his friends/family, with users being able to add comments etc. I think that something which can be used by your friends/family is a really good project, because that will teach you the most important point in software development: dealing with users, how to turn their requirements into functionality.

This is exactly the sort of thing you need to learn.
If we told you or gave you code you would have learnt nothing.
I suggest you use This[^] excellent research tool to find the answers you need.
There are many c# Tutorials available that can help an absolute beginner, and they will help you progress.
There is no other way you can advance, and certainly not by others doing it for you.

Where would be the point of giving you the code?
What would you learn? How to do it next time? Probably not. How to do the next task you come up with? Definitely not.
This is not a difficult task: You need one text box property (Text) used twice, one CheckBox property (Checked) used once, and a single event handler - I'll let you guess the name of that.
Total code you need to write? About two lines, if we let Visual Studio handle the hook up code (and mostly, we do).
Seriously, you need to get a book and follow the whole thing from the beginning to the end, doing all the exercises. If you continue to learn by asking for a bit here and a bit there, you will miss so much important stuff that you will effectively have wasted all the time you put into it.

hai ,
I have to dock a windows form into ppt application window. I try to do this
by using this code
PowerPoint.Presentation presentation = Globals.ThisAddIn.Application.ActivePresentation;
MyForm.Parent =(System.Windows.Forms.Control) presentation .Parent;
then the following error message shown
"Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to class type 'System.Windows.Forms.Control'. Instances of types that represent COM components cannot be cast to types that do not represent COM components; however they can be cast to interfaces as long as the underlying COM component supports QueryInterface calls for the IID of the interface."
is there is any way to solve this problem?

Even if you got past this error, you can't set forms to be parented across AppDomains anyway. I think that add-ins are run in a separate AppDomain, though I'm not sure about that.
Does the add in API not provide you with a way to create a custom tool window? I doubt you are supposed to create your own forms and then try to push them into the existing docking framework (since, if you try to do that, if MS change the docking framework your form will no longer work right).

Don't cross post your question in multiple forums and don't create new accounts for every post you make.
You cannot do what you want. Setting the Parent of a Form to that of a seperate process or AppDomain will not work.
PowerPoint will never notify your window that it needs to be repainted. It exposes no framework for you to "add" your window to the PowerPoint application.

Hello.
I am fairly new to C# programming, (I am trying to teach myself), and I would like to know how to make custom (either WinForms, or WPF) components.
The components that I am trying to make need to be fairly efficient, as I want to repaint them at least 30 times a second (with new data to display each time).
I am fine with using unsafe code blocks if they are needed.
The data that is going to be displayed is in the form of 1-dimensional HSL (Hue Saturation Luminescence) pixel data.
I want to show a moving display of this data, a graphical FIFO stack (one that discards the first inputs upon overflow).

There are two parts to this question. You don't actually need very much for a custom control if it is simply output, and in fact I'd be tempted just to use a PictureBox and catch Paint. The correct way to do it though would be to inherit from UserControl and override OnPaint. There's some information about how to write general custom controls in my LineEditor article[^] (scroll about half way down), but you probably don't need the user input parts.
The second part is how to draw a 1 dimensional data series (if I'm understanding you correctly, that's just a stripe of pixels?) quickly. 30 fps still gives you 30ms per frame, though you don't want painting to take all of that (obviously), so my gut feeling is that you can just paint normally, with Graphics.FillRectangle, but it depends how many pixels are visible at once. If that is too slow, use one of the fast ways of mucking with bitmap data (a search for Bitmap.LockBits here on CP should find them) to put the frame data into a temporary buffer and then use Graphics.DrawImage to copy it to the control during the paint phase.

Yes, you did understand the second part correctly.
I have a sensor that is supplying data over ethernet that needs to be displayed on the screen.
It reports intensity in HSL values, one strip at a time, kind of like a flatbed scanner.
I am making a GUI element that displays this data in a waterfall like display (thus the FIFO stack).

I would like to learn C#, I have been doing C++ for a while. What is a good meaningful project that I can work on to learn lots of C#, like SQL db, basics of C# and webservices if possible, all in one project. I can do like a banking exxample, but can anyone suggest a more meaningful project?

It depends on what you really want to learn. I believe there's no such thing as all-in-one project. A lot of developers are excited to jump into the advanced topics without getting familiar first with the basic ones. IMHO, I would advice you to start by writing some simple data entry application when you want to learn C# and SQL. That way, you get to familiarize yourself with the syntax.
