I consider it a community service, not a hack attempt. It could have been worse, and yes, it could have been better (a private email, maybe) but he highlighted an issue and has allowed me to fix it.

Based on where/how he did it I disagree. A single messagebox or other innocuous bit of JS fiddling would be one thing; especially if he did it here (or on his private forum). A barrage of zillions of them in one of the highest traffic parts of the site is something else.
My cynic notes that despite your calling it community service not a hack; you haven't reinstated his account.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

After I paste, I hit return, and it invariably screws up what I pasted, and I have to undo the tags it added for me.

Can you give me some sample text that's being messed up?
One of the key points is you should not need to hit return. In fact if you just paste and do nothing other than keep typing, the popup menu goes away immediately and the text is pasted as per your default selection - exactly like it was before I added the popup. The popup merely gives you a chance to change the type of paste.
