Problem with GridView Column Count when databinding programmatically?

Hello

I am using Visual Web Developer 2010 Express (with C# as code-behind) to develop a website.

I am loading data from the database into a DataTable and then I bind the DataTable to GridView with the following code:

GridView_Report.DataSource = reportsTable;
GridView_Report.DataBind();

The GridView displays the data correctly with all the columns and rows. On the Page I also have a button that will download the data in the GridView to a .csv file.

However there was an error and when I debugged it turns out that the GridView_Report.Columns.Count says that the GridView has 0 columns. How can this be when the GridView actually shows about 15 columns in the browser?
The GridView_Report.Rows.Count is correct with 27 rows.

All help will be appreciated.

From MSDN,

"Automatically generated column fields are not added to the Columns collection."

Try getting the count from the datasource object instead of gridview.

You can get Columns from DataSource of GridView control.

e.g

int TotalColumns = ((DataTable)GridView_Report.DataSource).Columns.Count;

Now I had to use the OnClick attribute for the cmdClassCode control because it was in the LoginView. When I try to view this page I get the following error message:

Could not find an event named 'cmdClassCode_Clicked' on associated control 'cmdClassCode' for the trigger in UpdatePanel 'LoginPanel'.

I'm assuming this has something to do with the face that I'm using the OnClick attribute instead of a normal handle. Any suggestions on how to get the cmdClassCode button to trigger the update panel?

That's a poorly framed question: you need to be far nmore specific and tell us a) what research have you already done? b) what have you already tried for yourself and c) how did that work out? Hello

I am using Visual Web Developer 2010 Express (with C# as code-behind) to develop a website.

On one of the pages the user can create a report of the data and I would like the user to be able to download the data as a .csv file.

I have written the method to download the data, but the HTML of the page is appended to the data in the downloaded file.

When searching for solutions people say the Response.Clear() and Response.End() must be used in the code, but I have that and it still appends the HTML.

The download method is:

it look like some think crashing while you get data and as a result it is giving you this problem.
Check all the value from DB.

You should not be using Response.End. Rather use Flush and/or CompleteRequest

"This method is provided only for compatibility with ASP—that is, for compatibility with COM-based Web-programming technology that preceded ASP.NET. If you want to jump ahead to the EndRequest event and send a response to the client, call CompleteRequest() instead."

I managed to get this to work. I originally had the code in a try...catch block. When I removed the try...catch it worked perfectly. I cannot explain that.

Hi,
I am a beginner in asp.net-silverlight-WCF, i create a small database application using silverlight and WCF. I publish it in the local iis. Its working fine in my local machine but the WCF service is not working in the other machines is the same network.
How to publish it in the local network. I am also a beginner in web service too.

Hi Prakash,
The question you have ask is related to WCF, here in CP we already have forum for WCF questions.
If you ask question there you will get better answer there.

Regarding you question, WCF are little bit tricky customer. Check the URL and endpoint URL you are using, that may be case for not working WCF.

I'm trying to develop a Blackberry friendly web page which has aGridview on the page.

I have tried making the row "Selectable" (select hyperlink is shown) and adding command button as one of the columns in the grid. Neither one of those methods respond to a click by the Blackberry Browser.

Does anyone have a solution for this ?

GridView is bulky. I would suggest to use some repeater control, or something light weight and implement the required functionality using JavaScript. Smile | :)
