When you use webclient.DownloadFile("http://www.whatismyip.com/automation/n09230945.asp", tempfile) you get a file that contains only a string (the ip address) and no page source text.
I want to create an application that similarly sends only a simple string when the client accesses the server url.

Here's a function in a C# application that gets the data from a site:

I want my site to send just the IP address (like whatismyip.com/automation.....) That is, when I execute my C# function from a separate application, the returned result is just the client's external IP address.
Any ideas?

It should be evident from the output you have. The Response object is filled with the necessary bits that tell the browser this is a webpage, such as the DOCTYPE, html, body. Response.Write(ipAddress) just adds to the stream it does nothing to replace it. What you need to do is, as I said before, use some of the other methods of the HttpResponse class, like ClearContent[^]
Also, again as I said before, this really should be implemented as a web service. Just because some other site is doing it as a webpage doesn't mean its the best way. Look at the URL and you will see it is using asp, a severly outdated technology.

hi, i'm trying to access the SQL Report in asp.net reportviewer. i had successfully configured Sql Report service 2008 and the report manager is working fine. But when i try open the reports in asp.net page with reportviewer it shows "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized". i'm passing the credentials parameter in config file and the reportserver Network credential class is also working fine. Can anybody help me please... i tired with googling...

hi, thank you for all. i sorted out the issue. There are lots of problems related to this. if u created the Reports in 2005 and deployed in Report server 2008, you must have use Report viewer 8.0 or higher in your application.
And my issue was related to the credential. when i disable the report service credential class. the report starts to working fine.

Hi All,
I have created a basic login site, right now just has a login and forgetpassword page.
The site works perfectly locally but on publishing when I navigate to forgotpassword page
after typing the username and click submit I get the following error "We were unable to access your information. Please try again. "
Also when I am trying to login I get the error"Invalid Username Or Password".
Why does it work locally and not on the production server?

I have some problems with a dropdownlist which is in a datalist. the dropdownlist is created statically and has only 4 items from 1 to 4, and it is in each row. when I get the dropdownlist selectedindex all of them just return the default value 0 even if user select another items!! 
I use the following code to access the dropdownlist and the selectedindex
DropDownList drp= dstQuestions.Items[i].FindControl("DrpAnswer")as DropDownList ;
int answer = drp.SelectedIndex + 1;
(dstQuestions is the name of the DataList.)
answer always return 1 !! what is the problem?!

Does your dropdown list has enable Postback. By default its false with DropdownList. So all the you are getting index as 0 which is the first index.

You need to set the response type of the response, and then write the bitmap to the output stream of the response.
Something like (after your existing code)...
Response.ContentType = "image/jpeg";
Response.Clear();
Response.BufferOutput = true;
objBitmap.Save(Response.OutputStream, ImageFormat.Jpeg);
Response.Flush();
Assuming your other code is correct which I haven't really checked.

what have you done to isolate the problem? Is it the page rendering, the data access, or something else. How much ram? Is everything on a single machine? How much traffic? What is the network like? There are any number of things that could causing you problems, but with details we can't help

RAM is 16GB.
my hosting server is Redundency (Clusters).
Network Architectures has:
1. Firewall
2. Switch
3. Check point
4. NAS (store photos)
5. SAN (database)

now my web page needs to interact with autocad application
but autocad is not installed in the webserver but it is installed in database server
i have a restriction to not to install the auto cad in web server but my web page should
interact with autocad application & generate the drawings in client system.
how can we solve this problem...

Hi,
I am mani. I have a problem in display the data in datagrid.
What i did is I am creating a form and in this form i created a 6 textboxes and one search button. whenever the user enter a text in textbox i retrieve the data from the database and displayed in the datagrid.
The problem is when the user again enter the text in text box the datagrid is filled with new data and last data will be lost. But i want that newly searching data should be displayed in datagrid including the last searching data.
