It seems Aol says Google says I can't send you an article in a zip anymore?

yep, something like that was posted around here a week or so ago. the mail carrier rejects zips based on file extensions (EXE, maybe others too), something gmail has been doing for a long time too.

Suggestion: rename the offending extension (e.g. double it up), add a note CP should undo it before publishing.

Note: publishing/editing through the article wizard still works as usual, as that is just a file upload, no mail involved.

Yes, it's lame. You can't even go into super secret squirrel settings and say "just give me the zip!". It does accept rar files, though. Because they are sooo much more secure.

We setup the submission page at http://www.codeproject.com/script/Articles/Submit.aspx[^] to make things easier.

We've just started a full revamp of the wizard. A list of all the things you dislike would be incredibly valuable at this point.

We're planning on providing a HTML mockup to our most prolific authors (and anyone who wishes to put in their 2c) so can I assume you'd have a spare 2c?

I have WAY more than $0.02. Some preemptive suggestions:

Multi-file upload (so I can select a bunch of files at once, and click "upload" once).
A "paste HTML" so I can just paste in my already formatted HTML without it being butchered afterward.
When an image is uploaded, show the path I'd use when assigning the SRC of the IMG tag (you may already do this, it's been a while).
A convenient of download of CSS and such we can use on our local to see what articles will look like before they're uploaded. Or maybe the LINK tag if you don't mind us remotely linking to the CSS.
As part of the above download, perhaps include a masterpage so we can see the article in something that looks like CP's layout.
I'd like to be able to edit articles after they have been approved by editors rather than have to send you an email. I think an editor botched one of my code snippets and I'd rather just edit my article really quick to fix it. The email approach is a pain (I have to wait until I get home and I have access to my email account, I have to look at the FAQ to look at proper procedures, and so on).
When making edits, I'd like to have a box to type what I changed and then have the "list of changes" be created at the bottom of the article automatically by CP.
Make all of the above as clear as possible and include it all on the same wizard page.

Also, I'd like immediate feedback that my changes look ok. I haven't tried the new upload form, but I'm guessing it doesn't show all the changes immediately (a preview).

I think we can do something with that. Some notes:

1. We are always going to strip out formatting that will get in the way. Word markup, for instance, must die. We also format the pasted code. If there are specific instances where the submission wizard is screwing with HTML let us know and we'll slap[ it into shape.

2. Already there, and there's also an "insert" button.

3. The download template file[^] already has this.

Immediate meaning "not the preview button"? With regards to browser based WYSIWYG editors they are incredibly temperamental so, in some circumstances they are WYSIWYKG, where K = kinda.

The template file has what? I don't see any linked CSS or a masterpage that would allow me to view my article on my local machine as it would on Code Project.

By immediate, I just mean "I can click preview and I'll see a preview". As in, I don't like emailing articles and waiting for an editor to get to it before I can see my changes look as I'd like. Not sure if it still works this way, but last I checked I had to email my article in after an editor gets a hold of my article.

a) I've never used it.
b) I think it makes submitting an article far too easy. We haven't seen any "questions as articles" or "how does this work? articles" so I guess things have improved (significantly!) on your end, but I just feel that having articles go directly to an editor is preferable.

It also seems you've improved the approval process, so that's another good-onya. Thumbs Up | :thumbsup:

As with so many things, the hard way is the better way.

Just as long as you don't take the "beware of the leopard" route... Unsure | :~

In New Search[^] page we can search things in (Articles, Technical Blogs, Tips & Tricks, Questions, Answers, Forum Messages, etc.,) but not comments because there is no option.

It will be another useful one if option to search text in comments. (Actually I have searched for a link(in comment by some one in Q/A section) I have seen few weeks back, that's why.)

I know there are some issues with actually removing messages, so this suggestion may not be workable, but once a message has been voted to be removed and there are no replies to that message and the message is a thread start message, would it be possible for that message to be removed? Smile | :)
