I have never had trouble with VM ware 7. What version do you have?
ALso have tyou tried the 'add device' through the VM image settings menu item? Perhaps you need to explicitely add the USb device there?

I was just kidding, sorry if it hurts you. The issue is resolved by installing the VM Ware tools. I am able to copy from host to the VM and VM to the host. It solves the problems. Thanks for asking buddy.

I am not 100% if this is in the right place...
I want to start making small robots using the Lego Robotics "toys", but I dont know where to start.
Googling has helped a bit however they talk about chip-boards and other stuff which makes life confusing as I do not know where to start!
I think the questions I am asking is:
1: What robot controller (circuit-board) do I need
2: Anything else apart from Lego to make it work?

You can do a lot of basic stuff with just the Lego Mindstorm or equivalent and your computer.
I got one for my son years ago. Think of it like an erector set that you can program
once you get it built.
If you want to do advanced hardware/software projects then you will need to do some of your
own circuitry and such but learn the basics first then move on.

First of all, if you want to go on with Lego (nice option to start) then you should not need anything else than the items you can get from them (Mindstorms).
Then,
you can go to more pro items:
Maxon motors[^].
Pololu[^].
Microchip[^].
All those vendors can help you to get nice results...
With Pololu and Microchip you will be able to program using C... which is nice as you won't be learning the language basics and moreover you'll get a nice language to play with...

Hi,
Yester day I needed to remove pen drive abruptly without ejecting it properly from an old laptop. After that when I tried to access files from the pendrive it is not showing any thing. Then I made the OS files as visible from "Folder options" menu. Then I was able to see some incorrect folders named as "$RECYCLE.BIN" and "System Volume XXX". What could have happened here and how can I get my data back. Is it because of any Virus or because of removing the pendrive abruptly. I ran anti virus as well but didnt workout. Then when I tried to run attrib command with some switches as mentioned in some link it was saying that Drive G: (the drive for pen drive) is not accessible.
If anybody knows any sort of information please help me in this. I am also searching the sites. Please help me that data is very important for me.

You should try and have Windows check the device. Open Explorer, right click the device, Properties, Tools, should get you there. You may or may not get (most of) what you want.
In general, USB sticks can be run in two modes:
- the slower one, which allows removal as soon as the device is idle (LED not flashing);
- the faster one, which requires you to use the "Safely Remove Device Now" tool.
You can choose through some dialog, also hidden under the device Properties somewhere.

Newer versions of windows default any USB device to the slower, safe removal, mode. I don't recall if this change was done at some point during XP, or was a Vista enhancement.

really? I hope that is actually true. I prefer "safe removal" over performance every time.
I'm using a mix of XP, Vista, and 7, and observe some strange behavior:
- on XP, I can choose the policy, and obviously I choose safety. Never had a problem.
- on Vista, I can get the dialog, it has "optimize for performance" selected, but the entire dialog is greyed out, so I can't change it. I don't recall any recent problem either. However I suspect the Vista system was different earlier, maybe one of the SP fixed it to safety (except for what the dialog shows).
- on 7, I didn't test today, I would guess same as Vista now is, and I don't recall any problem at all.
However when I move a USB stick from the XP machine to the Vista machine I sometimes get a dialog: "this file system could be damaged; shall I check and repair?" or something like that; "No" always works fine though. Now this does not make sense. If everything is set for safety, and knowing I never remove while the LED flashes, I shouldn't get such alarming dialog at all.

there is requirement to monitor the cd-rom
whenever write operation perform i want to show details that is - time n size of data
and path of file to be written on cd/dvd etc.
so my question is - i have to use imapi2 or iscsi dll.....

You need the WDK and Walter Oneys "programming the windows driver model"
Then you need to look at the sameples on the WDK, and then pick one that best suits your needs, ot alternatively start from scratch. The samples are ful of bugs. Yep, really nasty bugs. Even Microsoft find it hard to write really good drivers for Windows. Oneys Samples are better then.
If its a specific technology, like SCSI, audio, or network, then you are pretty close to being screwed, there is almost no decent documentation for theese, all you have for these is the WDK, and its a vast, unwieldy pile of information to manage and very hard to really get to the bottom of why certain things are done a certain way.
KMDF (WDM wrapper)? Might help alot, if you want to do basic stuff. At least PnP and Power handling wont be your responsibility, but you might find it limitiing at some stage. Dont know, never used it.
Then you need to get to know windbg. Oh what fun! No UI, almost totally command line driven... You need it to debug your driver, bit also understand crashes, so you need to become very good at crash analysis, which means you have to learn assembly aswell. (Fortunately its C code assembly, which is not too bad to read. Tyr C++ with SEH if you want really tortured assembly. )
Then you need to get to know the usual websites. OSR online, crashdumpanalysis.org, and so on
Give yourself about 1 to 3 years to be able to even get a driver working 100%, let alone become an expert in the kernel. That will take over 5 years most likely, till then you are a novice. At 10 years plus experience you are starting to get pretty good at it though.

I have a server installed on my client site and that server has only one workstation... how can I find if the client has connected any other device to the server? for example: if I want to check this every week to make sure only my workstation was connected and no other devices were connected?

what I want if any external devices (USB) was plugged in to mySERVER. also if any computer was connected to mySERVER via LAN as no one should connect his computer to this server.
