I have some simple questions about using ajax(from JS code) in asp.net applications:
1. what does happen when a httpXmlRequest object sends a request to the server? is the page_load executed? is any other method executed?
2. is the code that is written inside the !Page.IsPostBack block executed?
3. what is the right way to call a specific server method(for example: a method which retrieves a datatable from the DB and updates a drop down list) ?
I know you may say that I should find this information in some basic ajax tutorial via google, but I just can't find a tutorial that well covers those issues...

May be you didn't try enough. When I search for AJAX life cycle in Google, the very first link answers all your questions.
1, 2 - A WebForms based page that uses Microsoft Ajax raises the same server life-cycle events as an ASP.NET 4 Web page and in addition raises client life-cycle events. The client events enable you to customize the UI for both postbacks and for asynchronous postbacks (partial-page updates). The client events also help you manage custom script components during the lifetime of the page in the browser.

So yes and no (in case of a postback) for question 1 and 2 respectively.
3 - There is an exaple in the given link which should clear this query as well.
I suggest you to read the article in the given link. It will help you clear your doubts and build a good fundamental so that you can proceed with complex AJAX application.

Hello guys,
How can I get a string with parameters from the resource file directly in aspx?
I have a resource string like: "Enter values from {0} to {1}"
I know that from the code behind I can get the string like:
string.Format(Resources.Messages.Interval, "10", "100");
But I want to use the resource string on the aspx, like:
<asp:label id="Label1" runat="server" text="<%$ Resources:Messages, Interval %>
How can I set the resource string parameters from the aspx page??

Why not use String.Format in your label?
<asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text='<%=String.Format(Resources.Messages.Interval, "10", "100")' />
Note the use of single quotes for Text, which should prevent confusion with the double quotes in the function.

You have done the following incorrectly:
a) CAPTITAL LETTERS = SHOUTING, so don't use them.
b) Text speak, such as hi,Frndz = 
c) You haven't clearly stated what you have done and what is wrong.
d) You have stated a requirement, but not what you have do to fulfill it, so we can only assume you want it done for you by us: we won't.
e) The code is only urgent for you, for me it matters less than that stain in the sink I've been meaning to sort out. Saying it is urgent is rude.

You can't really achieve it with ASP.NET. You can however capture the onbeforeunload event with JavaScript, though it is not 100% accurate.

Hello, im trying to build a gallery using C#.
Ii've made a Listview showing photos from database as thumbnails in a "kind of a film strip", including a pager.
What i need is that when i click on a thumbnail inside the ListView, to show the large photo in a image control outside the listview. this should work using the selectedIndexChanged event, i have no idea what to do in there, i will appreciate any help since i searched a lot online and didnt find anything helpful.

Hi Farraj,
As far as i know,
you can use CSS[^] to get this functionality.
There is some example and tutorial on Google[^].
if ur intention is only want to display what u selected.
u can do that easily with CSS without post back.
give all image control from list view to same CssClass name.
then from css style sheet. change the image of outside frame.
you can get a lot of jQuery[^] example for this..

I wanted to have link button with name from the function as its value but couldn't figure it out how to do this. right now I am having the code like this but it doesn't work.

Hi,
In IE 8 session is shared between ie windows even when I open a new IE instance. This is going to create big issue with my application as I want diffrent instances of IE to have diffrent credentials.
Anyone faced this issue so far?
Any idea how to fix it via ASP codes?

This is a known [issue]. There are benefits and headaches for the session sharing. Let us see one of the benefits. Say your users have to login in order to access your application. Now a user wants to open one of your links in separate tab. If the session is not shared then they have to login in in order to access it, Right? So, sharing the session is not bad in this scenario.
On the other hand, you may have a valid reason for not sharing session. First try a simpler method. In IE click on the File Menu and select Open With New Session. If this is going to solve your problem, then instruct your users to use that technique. If that won't work for you, there first you need to understand this is happening at the client Browser side, so your control becomes very limited. Using Session or Cookie won't help as it will be shared. How about setting a hidden field with some value. Say in the beginning you start it off with a known value, may be a guid then you save it into dictionary or map. Then you can check if it exists and you know whether this is new or already visited page.

guys, i have made a control with a modalpopupextender and several updatepanels.
on OpenDialog method i call
document.getElementById('<%= SomeLinkButtonWithinThePopupControl.ClientID %>');
and this calls __doPostBack('<%= SomeLinkButtonWithinThePopupControl.UniqueID %>','');
but this doesn't call the server to update the panels
i have this control on several pages and it worked properly
Help people,so poeple can help you.
