The last time I used Java, compilation was very noticable. Are you talking about JIT compilation?

Same here. However, if I ever were to pick up a scripting language for handling daily/routine problems I'd probably go with Powershell. Then I could call my existing .NET code without WindowsApplication42 and the like filling up my harddrive

Me too, still working the old-fashioned way. It would be nice to have robots do all the thinking for us, I'm sure, but we still use engineers.
