With all due respect Chris...I don't think you post many questions or ask many questions in the Q/A forum - just an observation.
Why don't you make both wider. When you post in the Lounge it is wider. Make it the same dimensions as the post screen for the Lounge.

I would like to have my email address publicly displayed on my member's page, since I am a consultant, and since it is reasonable for potential clients to look there for my email address.
I already have my settings set to "Allow private email replies to this message", so it makes sense to me to use that setting as the basis for showing/hiding the email address on my member's page. However, some people might not want this, so perhaps an additional checkbox would be better.
If you don't want to do this, please let me know, and I will add my email address to my bio.

I'd say an extra checkbox.
When somebody email's you with the email reply link they still don't know your email address. It's CP that sends the email and the users never sees your email address.

There is no problem. But if you're asking why I made the request, the answer is this: I think there's value in having consistency throughout the site, to keep it professional and orderly in appearance. Rather than "just post it there", I want to give Chris & Co. the opportunity to consider whether this should be part of the site's structure. Where possible, I like to conform to the site conventions, since I frequently refer clients to my work here, and I want to present my work in the best possible way.
Just to let you know, this is also why I take so much care with the layout and presentation of my articles. I'm not interested in writing articles that are "good enough" to "just post it there"; I want each of my articles to be the best I can possibly do.
Whether it's an article or my email address, I want clients to see immediately that I'm a member of a well-ordered, high-quality professional site. I'm willing to follow site conventions concerning things like article formatting, fonts, and colors, because I know from my clients' reaction that the overall appearance of this site makes a very favorable impression. That impression begins with the little things, like how email addresses are displayed. I will do anything I can to help Chris make that impression even better, because in the end it helps me too.
Also just for your information, this is why I am so concerned about some of your posts in the Lounge. My clients have noticed the open and free-wheeling discussions in the Lounge, and several have told me that they know of no other site where the technical content is such high-quality, and the members seem to be really enjoying themselves. I'm just thankful that none of them (I hope) have seen your posts regarding new female members being lesbian or (today) how you would like a picture of Alison to the thighs.
I'm very happy to provide you with this information, and I hope you will post any additional questions you have.

Firstly, my relationship with Alison is none of your concern.
I have always had humourous and euphemistic badinage with her.
As for the new member being lesbian, I have already apologised for my actions that day, it need not be dragged up from the past, and it was an unfortunate incident that will never be repeated.
As for the main thrust of your point, then yes, I agree that in the user profile it may well be useful, but with the caveat that it does open you up to crawlers getting the address and bombarding you with spam.

I only mention your childish posts because they are relevant to the point I was trying to make; that as a consultant, CodeProject is a cornerstone of my public-facing reputation.
BTW, it's amusing to hear you say your relationship with Alison is none of my concern, after you've trotted it out for all members to read about. Maybe if you don't want it talked about, you should stop talking about it yourself?

There are nearly 8 million CP Members, they are not all going to police themselves for your personal satisfaction.
Perhaps you should not make CP your public face, but, rather, have your own website for that purpose.
Alison has never complained about the verbal jousting we have, and, until she does, it shall continue.
I have never overstepped the mark in my comments to/about her, they are always dripped in innuendo and double entendre.

You're a brave man opening your email address up to the world like that!
I've read your other message in this thread and appreciate, no end, your motivation to give me a chance to provide a consistent method for everyone. I don't think I will add this feature, however, because I worry there will be too many instances of members accidentally checking that box then getting extremely testy when the spam starts pouring in.

I see no reason to add this feature as it would be too easy to expose one's email by mistake. The present system works fine, in that you can allow people to email you privately without them knowing your email address, thus giving an extra layer of protection. If you wish to advertise your services publicly (as programmer for hire) then there are plenty of sites that offer that facility, but I do not think it is what CodeProject is about.
I must get a clever new signature for 2011.

Just a suggestion as an alternative. Code Project does allow you to link to your personal website from your profile. On my website, I put a contact form so people can contact me without me giving out my email address.

Yes, I was thinking of doing that. I haven't decided what to do yet. Sometimes people need to have direct email access because they want to send a project or source code that uses one of my components, that they are having a problem with.

Whilst on 'Normal' posts the multiple whitespace characters are trimmed (ie hitting space bar three times only results in one space on the posting), I noticed that when commenting in Q&A this is not the case.
Not really a bug, but hey, an inconsistancy.

When replying to the same thread yesterday I got the same (or very similar) message - even though I was posting to other threads fine.
As soon as I came here yesterday to report the fault, of course, the post worked!

Hi,
I tried to update my article through submission form. Initially the title of the article was displayed inside submission form, so I just set ZIP upload package location and typed a comment into corresponding box. However, after I clicked on "Submit my Article" button, a new page has opened asking to enter article title, but there is no field to enter the title! Therefore, I am not sure if update has been uploaded. Since I have an executable in ZIP archive, I cannot e-mail the update.

Actually, you can. Rename the .zip file to .zzz, and include a note (in the email) that it's really a .zip file.
