Keith, already suggested that I shall pull my article to a web page and just have a pointer rather than as a CP Article in it's own right.
I think that will satisfy all parties.
See, the middle ground is achievable.
I will leave it in articles until it is completed and critiqued, then uplift and post to a website.
I trust all are happy with that.
This is a result of me saying something in Latin, somebody saying about learning latin, my suggestion of a primer and several people encourageing me.
It seems to have got a little out of hand.
But hey ho, the solution is not difficult is it?

I have just looked at your 'How to solve CCC' article and I think I have spotted an error.
In the 'How are clues made up' section
False teller and achievement we hear.
From this we can get the answer COUNTERFEIT.
False is the synonym which is counterfeit, and from the cryptic part, Teller is Counter and achievement is a feat, but as it is 'heard’ it means a word spelled the same.

I just did:
'View Unanswered Questions' and 'View All Questions' both show no results and nowhere in the top right area are any controls for filtering, just for searching and signing in / out.

Hello, I am currently at work and can't send any screenshots, but I will do it tonight when I get home. The URL (for the unanswered questions) is: http://www.codeproject.com/script/Answers/List.aspx?tab=unanswered
However, I think it's the ancient IE6 we still have here at work. At home I use IE8 and last night everything was ok. I thought you perhaps had changed some settings and solved the problem. But here at work those pages are blank again. As a developer I can do what other users here can't do: simply install another browser. I need it to test web applications

IE6? There's your problem.
We're no longer supporting IE6. If it works, great, if it doesn't, then it can be luck of the draw.

Unfortunately everything at work still runs on XP and IE6, like many of the users of our web applications. I fear, this old thing will still be in use for a while longer. But thanks again for your troubles. At least I can install another browser without being killed for it

The rating control was in a floating div with no width specified so IE freaked out and hid the rest of the content. The boundaries of the elements were within the viewable area, they just weren't being rendered. Setting a nominal width of 250px to the rating control (for IE6 only, using the _underscore hack) made everything snap back into sanity.

It's standards compliance that should be (and is) the goal for IE.
Actually, it should be innovation, a great experience, efficient use of resources, keeping out of our way and providing a browser that works on whatever platform, whatever device we choose, that should be the goal.
But for now I'll be happy with standards compliance

And I always went around the browsers and went for web applications with clients connected over webservices whenever I could. In my pet project at home I now went so far to make a client based on XNA. At the moment it happily renders 3D scenes while displaying the first controls of my yet unfinished GUI.

So just what is a programming site doing hosting these kinds of articles? Can anyone explain the logic of this?
Or is it open season and we can now publich anything on CP and thus degrade its usefullness?

The CCC has been moved to the Scrapbook section which holds a bunch of "don't really fit here" things. There was enough interest in the Crosswords that it seemed sensible to post a guide to them.
Articles should be about programming, but articles which help the community work too.

Its the start of the rot Chris. CP will stop being a good site for programming and become a general dumping ground for anyone looking to raise their profile points on CP for whatever odd reason they should want to do so.
I dont suppose you will let the Latin Primer get published, it cant be of much help to the community to learn a languaghe as useless and dead as that.

Why not take a look at http://www.codeproject.com/kb/scrapbook/[^] and look at the dates of the articles in there before you get too hot and bothered.
It's fine. Cryptic crosswords are problem solving games. I can think of worse things than that.

I dont feel that strongly about it Chris, its more a question of the direction you think CP should go in.
I had a look at the scrapbook, and there is a lot of IT stuff in there. And your traveling info is even relevant, since al ot of us do travel as part of our job, so even tenuous, its valid. But if you put Latin in there, its going to stick out like a sore thumb.
