Probably because of me.
I thought it was a new reward for being of sufficiently high reputation. There was some talk of implementing it about a year ago or so...
It seems to me that the only real problems would be that all of the images would pretty much have to be hosted on CP. In that regard, they should really limit its use to our user avatars that are posted in our profile, and even then, it should resize them accordingly, or allow us to upload smaller images that don't need to be resized.

I found the link you linked to, and that link linked to another link that I subsequently found as well. However, all of the links that linked to corresponding links were deleted by some fink, I think. I'm tellin' ya, I'm on the brink, and think I need a drink to sink my blinks before my brain sinks from lack of links. I hope I wasn't too succinct.

I would like to add that the feature/bug is still available in Q&A. I just checked it.
By the way, I must also tell you that I have seen an image used in a question a long back. I was not very regular that time so didn't report it and have forgotten about it.

I'm afraid the sig size is limited for disk cost reasons. With a gazillion members every sig byte must be getting quite expensive. Maybe we need a new tag that says: "include sig from member XYZ here", I suggest <GOSUB sig="XYZ">

I would also like the hamsters to allow the <img src > tag to be locked into the sig.
I changed it, saved it and watched as it disappeared.
