As I am preparing a proposal for a CP web service, I was thinking of setting up a group of existing members, so we would have our own little forum to discuss matters. As I am new to creating groups, I encountered several problems:

1. the FAQ does explain how to set up a group, it does not tell what a group is, and how it would work.

2. In the "Me" menu, there is a "My Groups" item. However under "My Settings" there also is a "My Groups" tag, and they each hold different things. A bit confusing.

3. while setting up a group (under the "My Groups" tab), any mistake brings me back to the first tab of "My Settings", which holds information about me, not about the group I'm trying to create. Very confusing, and likely to damage my settings.

4. the group needs a name, which apparently has to be unique in the universe of CP members. Not easy anymore. There isn't a simple availability test (Google has that).

5. the group seems to need an e-mail, not sure why, as I already get what I need in my Inbox anyway. I don't need another copy of the daily insider... (and I can't leave it empty).

6. and that e-mail has to be unique within CP space, quite annoying. It means I have to set up yet another e-mail account and probably make it forward to some other e-mail address.

7. I can now log out from my normal account and log in to the new group; not sure why I would want to do that.
Will future group members also have to or be able to log in as group member? I don't get it.

All I was hoping for was a little forum where a few people could come and chat on a specific topic. With a member list, no separate login, no distinct notification choices.

Confused | Confused |

[ADDED]
In the mean time I did receive an e-mail which tries to explain things a bit. It mostly solves my #7, future group members will not have to log in in a different way.

8. It also contained the mysterious sentence:
Your membership was initiated from the following IP address: 0.0.0.0
which I don't mind too much. Just wondering.
