I wanted to see this page (it happens to be a T/T page): http://www.codeproject.com/Tips/108316/32-Bit-or-64-bit-OS.aspx[^]
Whenever I enter that URL in a browser (tried FF3.6.9 and Chrome), I get the page as expected; however it immediately then scrolls from the top to "Alternate 2", and the URL bar changes to http://www.codeproject.com/Tips/108316/32-Bit-or-64-bit-OS.aspx#alternate2
This is not what I expect or want.
PS: I also tried IE7 (which I only use when other browsers give me a problem) and that one has a different weirdness; it does not scroll, instead it gives an error dialog stating A run-time error has occured. Line 2325. 'AttControl' is undefined.

Does it for me too in FF 3.6 and Chrome 6.0. A possible clue for the hamsters: Hitting the back button goes to the top of the page (where I'd have expected to go the first time).
[a final check before posting] Weirder and weirder. That only occurs in FF.

Correct but the last one is the only true permalink. The first could go to different alternates depending on the their sort order (recent, top rated). The second one will always transform to the third.

So I read a tip/trick[^] and decided to try and vote 3 and provide quite some feedback.
There were several problems with the tip/trick content; those are dealt with in my message there.
There were even more problems with the voting stuff, I'll try and describe them here (before you ask, I'm using FF3.6).
This is what I did: I click 3, then enter text in the magic panel, finally click vote. Nothing happens.
Try again, fail again.
Reload page, now enter text in panel first, then click 3 and vote. Nada.
Try again, with 4 this time. Nada.
Reload several times, hoping to get out of possible caching incoherencies. Nada.
Reload page, try adding a real message ("add message" widget). Aha, it has a voting bar. I click 3, and now it says: "You voted 4, do you want to revote?" or something similar. I click 3, and vote. No dice. I click "publish", now at last there is a message with the content I wanted, but my vote is still at 4. I find no way to change it to 3.
Here is a short list of complaints in arbitrary order:
1.
The magic panel measures some 2 by 1 inch, much too narrow to allow an easy edit, and much too small to enter a significant message (should I upgrade my vocabulary and start using fewer but stronger words?). The default (or only?) size being so small is a typical Microsoft wrong-doing IMO.
2.
The magic panel disappears when you leave it (e.g. when you have to scroll the original T/T text to come up with more comments). Fortunately it does not loose what has already been entered. But non-empty entry boxes that disappear are BAD.
3.
Having entered something in the magic panel does not flag the page as dirty; one can browse away without warning, and loose whatever was entered.
4.
When creating a new message AND voting inside the message edit page, again a magic panel appears. There really is no need for the bloody thing, I'm already composing a message, what are you going to do with two messages? merge them? throw one away (which one)? it is confusing.
5.
Entering a small text in the magic panel and voting (either 3 or 4), in the T/T page, i.e. without "new message", did not work.
6.
Voting within the Edit Message page did not work. I'm not sure when the site decided I had voted 4, I was unable to modify it afterwards.
Conclusions:
1.
it just does not work. It is horrible. It may look fancy and attractive, but it fails to offer or perform elementary functions. It also is not intuitive.
2.
It is goodbye T/T for me. I'll stick to articles and forums. Those subsystems work. I can only hope the forums will not be "reworked" to the level of Q&A and T/T.
PS: if you can, please change my vote from 4 to 3.

A simple bug. This has been fixed and you can now change your own vote. After a Ctrl+F5 of course (to reload the corrected js file)
You have shown utter disgust at anything even vaguely related to the Questions and Answer system so I suggest you simply leave it alone. Other people use it, enjoy it, and get value from it. You have decided that the entire Tips and Trick system - developed specifically to answer 10 years worth of "but I only have a small tip not worthy of an article - I guess I'll go elsewhere" complaints is completely and utterly useless because the rating control had a bug? This is completely illogical and a purely emotional response that doesn't help.
So can I suggest that instead of focusing on why you don't like a system that is simply different than the forums, you focus on promoting your top wishes for the forum system instead, concentrating on those items that will benefit the the majority of members the most instead of pet wishes.

I think you missed the point. I don't visit T&T very often. I did today, following a link from the home page, and all I wanted to do upon reading that specific one is vote and reply, it should have been a matter of less than one minute. It resulted in a very bad experience and a lot of time being wasted, as it lead to the discovery of several problems, see the list of complaints. I know disappointment is an emotion, I can't help that.
When a tool doesn't work for me, I tend not to use it. Yes I don't like Q&A for a number of reasons, if you want to call that "utter disgust" that is up to you, I never used such words. I don't visit Q&A anymore. No problem. If I want to read tips, I can still do so, however in the near future I'll do it in read-only mode.
As you know I'm pretty active in the forums, and I'm afraid now they will be modernized next, and may stop working well; so your reaction makes me hesitant to provide any suggestion. Except this one: I wish CP would worry about keeping up the quality more than about adding features. IMO keeping the quality is essential, while adding/improving features is optional. And I rather drive a reliable Nissan than a flashy Ferrari that needs frequent repairs.
I hope that clarifies things.

Apology accepted. The fix seems to have cleared some of the issues. Thank you for the speedy improvement.
It still needs more work, see the earlier list; and here are new remarks/complaint:
7. when I tried to change my vote to 3, it presented the magic panel, I entered a "fixing my vote" message, and clicked. It resulted in no new message, "fixing my vote" nowhere to be seen, and the histogram now shows 2 votes (a 3 and a 4), not sure if both are mine (I don't know how to see the histogram without voting). It also did not say anything like "you voted 4; do you want to change your vote?"
FYI: I'm using the same account, PC, Windows edition, and browser as yesterday, not the same IPadr I'm sure.
8. when not logged in, instead of a voting bar, a T/T shows the text "Sign up to vote for this article". I think it should be "Sign in...". What is worse, when hovering that text, the magic panel appears, which does not make any sense.

Some of us who report bugs and problems, do it to help and improve. Not to give others a hard time, actually it's the opposite. If something doesn't work some people will stop using it and go somewhere else, by reporting bugs and problems your wish is to help users and site developers. Perhaps CP staff can let us know, if this help is unwanted or what's the preferred way to give constructive help.

The feedback that members provide, especially members as passionate and committed as Luc, is invaluable. Luc has an uncanny ability to find bugs, to report usabililty issues, and to think through to an extremely concise degree his thoughts and suggestions. This is priceless and I'm extremely lucky to have such input.
However, when a member says an entire system is rubbish because a separate module in that system is broken (and also broken in the main article system, it turned out) it is an illogical and (to me) unfair criticism.
My whole point is that I don't think I can ever make Luc happy with Quick Answers, but I know that what he has asked for time and again are improvements to the Forum system, so that is where I think Luc should focus on. I would love nothing more than a shopping list, feature by feature, prioritised by what will help the most members the most.
Our team is stretched thin so we prioritised based on what we want to achieve and what our members ask for and I would absolutely love an excuse to dedicated a month to the forums.

That's not a bug. That's by design. Members were downvoting for no reason, or downvoting to make their article/tip get a boost. I'm fine with a "downvote" of 4, but votes of 3 were being cast for simply to lower a score. If that's the case then a reason needs to be provided.

I also faced the same problem today while voting in Some Articles. Thought, it must be something wrong with my browser settings as I have seen people voting with comments within that time period. I tried with Chrome & it sucked.

Chrome is extremely aggressive about caching. If you force a reload (or clear your browsing cache) then you'll see the updated and corrected javascript.

Hunting isn't going to get you nominated. Sending a crate of fine ale, or a decent bike, may do the job. However it all starts by sending a great article.

Adding to what Luc said, don't share the article link with your colleagues before it gets nominated for the survey. (Just a piece of advice  )
Article rating plays a major role in order to get selected. If your article gets quite a few vote from same IP (colleagues voting from same company) then the probability of your article getting selected is reduced a lot. (I experienced - happened with me!  )

Well, I have written several articles, and have had a particular article up on Code project for a few weeks, and have had a pile of votes without mentioning it to anyone.
Someone having voted said, it could be good enough for the article of the month.
I just couldn't work out if I need to nominate it, and if so how, or does someone else nominate, also how. For example, how would I nominate one of your articles? No idea.
I was looking on other articles for a nominate button, but no.

Does that IP Checking also apply then to the audit process when finalizing the winners?
I think my latest one deserves a prize just for being something related to CP.......or maybe thats just my wishful thinking!
