Sir,
I am working on an e-commerce project using ASP.Net and C#.Net (Visual Studio 2005-Windows XP).
I am facing problems in the login module. I created the login accounts using the roles and users in the ASP.Net Website Administration Tool. The login module is working fine when I test the website within the Visual Studio. I mean the login form is working properly under the Development Server integrated in the Visual Studio. What I want is to make this work properly under IIS (i.e. the Production Server). When I deployed the project to the IIS, the login form with the login control is displayed, but cannot login and gives a login failed message. I posted this problem in few forums along with the source code of the login module only. But nobody cared in downloading my source code. I have searched about this issue in Google and they are providing good tutorial links to solve this issue. Even after reading those I couldn’t solve this as I am new to Web Development. I need help from experts on this. Can you please provide me a sample source code with the web.config and also a description of the major steps in configuring IIS to support the role based login?

I had gone through the following titles under google

Have you deployed the app_code directory to your production environment? This is where the membership datebase is stored.

Alternatively you can create the database in SqlServer like this:

Which will let you store users in a proper database. If you go down this route make sure you change your web.config to point to the external DB.

I don't have an app_code directory in the production environment. But I have an App_Data directory in the production environment. What to do?

Hi all
i need to develop a web application using Telerik controls. One of the application tasks is to send emails to facebook friends and i need to add it as a facebook applciations section so users can add it from thie face book accounts.

I have been googling and i found some articles related to developing .net web applicatons using the toolkit.
Is this applicable also using third party tools??

Problem while exporting and Importing using Gridview to Excel

My new application needs export records from gridview to Excel file, which I have done already. But when I tried editing the same excel file, it saves a new folder and css stylings in excel to the new folder.

I need to import the exported excel file with some changes in data to the application.

But I found that, while saving for export it saves as web compatible excel file. I want to save the file as plain excel file, like the one Microsft Report Control exports.

Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello,
I have been using regular ASP.NET Web Services for a long time, and now I realize that, WCF is replacing the old ASP.NET Web Services. Fine, I wanted to learn WCF, but now, I see, i have bunch of choices about services like,

WCF Service,
RIA Service,
WCF Data Service,
ADO.NET Data Service
Domain Service Class
AJAX Enabled WCF Service
and also the regular Web Service

So, which service learning is of worth investment of time ?

Hai every one,

I developed a Web service application in visual studio 2008. For deploying it to web, i am running the application directly using the visual studio run button. Now i want to deploy the web service (.asmx) using some command line arguments (just like running a normal console application or a form application). Thus, deploying the web service without the use of Visual studio.

Can any body provide some articles regarding this, because i haven't find suitable articles in Google (most of them are confusing).

I'm using Visual Studio 2010 (.NET 3.5), which still has .NET 4.0 installed because I had to uninstall Visual Studio 2010.

Extending LoginName Control !!

Hi,
I want to show some more information in the LoginName control instead of just the user name. For example, i may want to show the email address or full name in LoginName control. So, I wanted to extend the control and create a new one. But, I dont understand how to retrieve the value of the login name in the code, there is no property such as 'Value'. The only property is closed to the desired one is 'FormatString', but cant understand how to get the value. Can you please give me a guideline.

Thanks, actually I did not mean the Login Control, rather, I meant the LoginName control. But anyway, I have solved the problem by developing a new custom control from scratch. Smile | :)

Calculate the sum of a Formula field

In my crystal report I have a formula field which shows the percentage based upon the the item amount and total amount. If we name it as a "percent" field. I need the some of this "formula field" "percent" in the report footer. When I try to sum this, it is giving me error as "This field cannot be summarized". How can I add the above montioned field to my report footer.
Can anybody please help me in doing that.

I'm not familiar with CR, but I'm imagining it can't sum the field because it's formatted? How about adding an invisible duplicate of that field without formatting, would that help?

I have resolved it by adding a shared varibale in the "percent" formula in such a way that in each iteration it keeps on adding then show percent in percent column and shared variable in the percentTotal column.

Hi,
I have just learned ASP.NET Form Authentication where I found that, if the user is not logged in, he/she will be redirected to the Login page by IIS with HTTP Status code 302. Obviously search engine bots will be redirected to the login page with 302 code. So, will Googlebot consider my website full of duplicated contents because of this 302 redirects ? As I cannot override the status code from 302 to 301 for search engines. Form authentication is very common for ASP.NET Developers. So, if my fear is true, then it will sound like, "all asp.net websites are not search engine friendly" !!! Woould anyone please guide me what I can do about it ? Or if there is any reason to fear at all ?

Nah, it kinda recognizes redirects and AFAIK you don't get penalized for it.

You can put the NOINDEX meta tag on your page to prevent indexing the content.

<META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX">

Without it, I'm afraid Google will be indexing your login page.

Returning 301/302 status doesn't really bother google with regards to page rank, a 301 will only prevent google from spidering your original links in future.
