I don't have an answer and I stand fully behind a no personal attacks policy, guess I expressed that a few weeks ago in another posting. When I started this thread, then it's because I had a thought that the issues I see in QA can be described as "Nomen est omen" (Something is true to its name). I didn't mean that the name 'Quick Answers' is the entire cause, but it reflects many attributes and is fitting to the symptoms such as quickly formulated question, sloppy language, lazy research and charged mood among regular participants.
Now I remember someone mentioning a few weeks ago the term "Slow Answers" and somehow it got stuck. From time to time I wished that the overall concept would focus more one decent slow answers, especially with new enquirers that put quite a stress on our members answering. I could be completely wrong (maybe make it a survey), that's why I asked if the concept works as expected. No harm intended, hope I could better describe what I mean.

Let me play around with it, and maybe adjust the wording a little.
I agree that encouraging well posed questions, not slapped together questions, is the goal. You are totally right.

I can get to the settings page for the forum, but any attempt to make a change tells me that the site name is taken - even though I presume that I was recognized as the admin or I wouldn't have been able to click on the tiny edit icon.

I just tried logging in as you (relax: I don't know your password!) and then editing that forum and it was fine for me.
Can you please cut and paste the exact error?

went to the edit screen
made no changes or in any way interacted with CP once I got there other than:
clicked on "save my settings"
and I received:

Ah - you want to change the settings of the Soapbox group account, not the forum associated with the group.

...OK, I tried doing what you said and it was very happy to let me. There's a 'check availability' button next to the name - have you tried that? What does it say?
Do you have javascript enabled?

It comes up a red "(taken)" which is repeated on the next line.
I have javascript enabled.
The problem occurs both in Chrome and Firefox
The only thing I can add is that the application bounces me to a version of the same page, after I click on save settings button, where instead of the logon email being "soapbox@..." it is "jono@..."

This may or may not be pertinent but. I just suspended a member. The suspension happened as it should, but when I then used the drop-down filter to go back to "All Statuses", the page came back with a no result option. When I pulled out of the admin altogether and went back in, I could see, the standard "All Statuses: results.
From the outside in, it looks as if somewhere after a postback the app loses my status as an admin for the forum and I end up without the view rights I have when the pages first come up.

I think some very minor things were changed:
Download anagrams got changed to Download source.
An incorrect apostrophe in it's got removed (to its).
A code-tag added etc.
Surprising though. Not sure why your article was chosen.

Has happened to me too (CP Vanity, created March, got edited early June), and I must admit I don't like it much, as it occurs asynchronously and forces you to go and compare to find out what happened. Most often it is a capitalization change, some CODE tags added, etc. Nothing major. Not sure how it could be improved easily.
It also happens to Tips & Tricks (both originals and alternatives), and there I really hate it. It takes more time to figure out what edit was deemed necessary than it took to create the whole thing in the first place. And things get complicated by bugs in the revision tracking, and the editor itself too.
I wish CP editors would provide an accurate summary on their edits, say checks on a number of categories:
- added HTML tags
- corrected capitalization, punctuation
- corrected spelling
- changed description
- changed code
Which is more than could be asked from a random editor, but it would at least give an indication what had happened, so one can decide whether or not a verification is in order.

You can simply click the revisions link in your article to see what has changed. I will admit that we don't display all changes (such as title or attributes) but editors typically go into articles such as yours as a second set of eyes.

I think there are plenty of blatantly poorly edited articles to fix, (like for anyone who isn't a native English speaker), and mine shouldn't even be on the radar.
Maybe she does mine because there are so few errors that it doesn't take much time to "fix", and thus artificially drives up her "what-I've-done-today" work item quota.

The editors work on the top rated and the worst of the worst in parallel. The top rated should be polished as fast as possible, and the worst of the worst should be at least readable.

That doesn't seem fair. I don't mind all articles being reviewed by a professional editor. I think CP needs two queues, a high-priority one with articles that are interesting but need editing badly, and the other, with everything else, chronologically.
What I don't like is the editing being pretty late, the mail being impersonal (it mimics the original mail which one gets when submitting an article, but results in quite a different feeling somehow), and authors having to figure out what has changed (using two small text boxes). While the initial mail is an encouragement, the second one surely is not.
PS: and I hate to think what would happen when many people were given editing rights; so I always restrict those rights where ever I can, and I would like to see them stated explicitly, however they are absent in the article's header.
