Hi all,
I'm not sure if I'm heading in the right direction on this, if I'm making things over-complicated then please point it out and point me in the right direction!
I'm writing a search filter for my website where people can refine their search results by adding/removing filters like on many other websites. Ebuyer.com springs to mind as a rough example of what I'm trying to achieve.
I'm currently creating the filter list as a webusercontrol so that it can be added to more than one webform if required. I want it to interact with it's parent page by changing it's properties and running a couple of public methods (all on the parent page).
How do I go about accessing the parent page properties etc? I have tried creating a reference to the page class in the webusercontrol, but it refuses to recognise it. I'm writing it in c#, does anyone have an example they could show me of how I should be doing it, I would greatly appreciate it, or at least a reference to a good comprehensive article, as so far what I have found has led me down dead ends.
Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry friend,
Your post is too long and still i am not clear,
According to me you want to make communication between User Control and Container Page, Right?
Then you need to user Properties to Access Control from Page.
And Events (You can pass any value as Event Argument, it can be a class) define in UserControl to communicate with the page.

When i select 2 then nothing happens when i select 1 again then error msg fires for a while and disappears why it is so?

In the example above you don't need the validator since the dropdown always has at least 1 value available so remove it in the safe knowledge that when you parse the results the selected value of DropDownList1 will always contain a valid value.Tychotics: take us back to the moon

Hello,
I have put my web project (which uses reporting services) into the web server for testing.
All works fine on th elocal machine but on the server I get this error when trying to access the reports:
The permissions granted to user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)
What do I do to solve this please?

I have now done this:
go to the property tab and create a new group with name
BUILTIN\Users
And in the role assignment tick browser role
Now the error is :
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Cannot create a connection to data source 'dsDB'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)
For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
Any thoughts please?

hi
i am using table {page-break-after:always} in printing HTML page and it is working fine
but when i export the same report to word and print the word document the page break is not working.
Any ideas or is there another work around so if i have multiple reports to print each new report on new page
example
report1 on pages 1,2,3
report2 starts on page 4 and so on

Hello,
I have placed the web project (built in vs2008) into the DEV web server for testing...
virtual directory is also created.
After checking the asp.net version on the web server it seems only the version 2.0 is available and so when I browse to the site i.e. http://servername/site
then I get this error below. Should I put something in the web.config file to solve this issue?
It seems the error is to do with the reportviewer control I am using.
NOTE that the ERROR is on line 117
Any thoughts please?

This seems to be to do with installing the reportviewer into the Dev web server.
How do I do this because these dlls are present in my local machine where I have developed this web project in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\ReportViewer
whereas in the webserver I only see :
\\DevWebServer\c$\Program Files\Microsoft visual studio 8
\\DevWebServer\c$\Program Files\Microsoft visual studio .NET
\\DevWebServer\c$\Program Files\Microsoft .NET
to which folder do I copy the dlls to?

This is now solved by copying the dlls into the bin directory of the project.

MY opinion is 4
I want to check whether particular value for a column exists before inserting , for that i want to ask which one is recommended ?
1) Set the unique constraint in table field, and in data access layer throw error catch it in presentation layer , and check whether error number is 2626 and display duplicate message.
OR I Use
2)In store procedure use EXISTS before inserting and if their is duplicate found then raise error.
Or I Use
3) I create another store procedure for checking whether value exists for a field, call this store procedure in my BLL Before inserting , if duplicate found then raise duplicate exception in presentation layer catch and display duplicate exception.

According to me its better to use 2 option becuase you can do all you task in one go i.e in one procedure and you dont have to call database two time.

if you want to check for User name in registration form then i recommended you to 3 where other procedure will call by ajax when you enter user name.
If it is not for registration then use 2.

How to make a sub-report which get data from SQL Server based on a primary key passed from the main-report.I know how to pass parameter to the report but I don't know to pass parameter from the main report to subreport and make link in the main report. After clicking the link the subreport shows its table.
