Why anyone would still be using IE6 is a mystery to me.

Superceeded by IE7 in 2006
And again by IE8 in 2009
Here we are in 2010.
Aside from snide remarks that Firefox is better, I am amazed that a version of IE that has been extinct for four years still has a 20% share of the browser market!

I don't know - something about upgrades.
I've had bad sh*t happen after some of their upgrades (like the infamous ZoneAlarm conflict).
And, since I use FireFox at work and SeaMonkey at home, why take a chance?

Most, if not all software, is broken. We've just not noticed yet.

Yeah, like our company. It was just a week or two ago that an email came out warning users from upgrading their IE6 because it would break some business critical applications, most of which were installed just a year or two ago!  They warned that it was against company policy to upgrade without I.T. approval and doing so could result in your PC being re-imaged back to the "standard" office PC.
My cube neighbor (fellow developer) and I keep shaking our heads when we get these types of notices. He has IE8 (plus Chrome and FF3.6, which he uses most of the time), while I have IE7 (mostly due to the possible issues) and neither of us has seen any compatibility problems with most of the "version sensitive" software on the list. There are a few things that we don't have access to but the ones we do all have worked fine for us. 
So for now we continue to code our web apps (intranet use only) and make sure they works properly in IE6 (on a test PC) but also in later versions as well as other the other major browsers. We both get really annoyed with sites/apps that ONLY work properly in IE6 and cannot wait for one of our vendors to come out with a version that will NOT work in IE6 and will force us to upgrade. In the meantime at least we don't have to suffer.

I cannot imagine how could deletion of all rows in a table and adding new rows with JS may break the browser. Neither could imagine what IE6 do for 15 seconds loading while browsers like FF take less than 0.5 seconds for the same request. Well if I am forced to develop for IE6 again I will quit web developing (or program my own browser)

IlluminateBG, it's most probable that you quit web developing than you develop your own browser like IE, Chrome..

Nowhere is said that it should, it would and it must be like IE or chrome or firefox. Building a web browser is a easy task. Even so easy, that today internet mark-up lanugages and scripting is used even outside the browser. It is easy implementable.
However, it is clearly that one person cannot build an enterprice project (or if it can, he/she must be genius).
