[SOLVED][WORKAROUND] Run VB 2008 error "cannot be modified at this time" [modified] Central_IT8-Jan-10 3:15 Central_IT 8-Jan-10 3:15  Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me with the error I am getting when I try and run my application in VB 2008. "Form1.vb cannot be modified at this time" I have tried Tools/Option/Build and Run/ Don't save any changes. This does not work and I would want the choice to save changes everytime I run my app. When I put say a button on the form the first time, it works. If I add another say button then that is when I get the problem. It happens when I change something on the form i.e. works first time but if I change anything, I get the error. It seems to be a problem with VS itself and not your app or system. Try to reinstall VS, and apply any and all updates. Its a long way but, it fixed my problem. How to solve a Programing error: 1. I do have problems updating the SP1. Maybe if I can get this loaded then it should solve my problem. This may help, when I save before running, it works. No use as I want to run my app before saving changes. I have just installed VS 2008 onto my PC. I put a button onto a form, pressed F5. It worked. I then put another button onto the same form and tried to run. I got the error. I then saved everything, it worked. I am also having problems installing SP 1. It points to that sort of problem. I can add new button etc so I thought the execution was complete but it must be hanging onto something. Is there a way of finding out or some setting I can change? The process that runs is called vbexpress.exe (For VS2008 Express) The proces that "Hosts" your app is called "SolutionName.vshost.exe" It stays in the memory even if the IDE is stopped, so i don't think that is your problem. When VS first runs an app without you saving it, it creates files, maybe those files are set to read-only by defualt? And then when you save they are overwritten. I have tried this with VS 2005/2003 and do not get this problem. I also have run this in administrator mode even my rights are admin so I should be permitted to do everything. I have checked the file are their attributes are not read only. At the moment I am only developing GUI. I tried to google it as well but only came up with: "the designer is currently in read-only mode" Maybe you should try to contact VS support? It may be a problem only relevent to your computer system. Sorry that i can't be of any more assistance. Someone else (prefferable more experianced than me) HELP OVER HERE!! lol. If you run the app from View designer then you get the message. I am just going to go with running app in code viewer for the present time. I also managed to install SP 1 but it made no difference. [modified]Can any one Answer this?????????? mdrizwan_17-Jan-10 20:19 mdrizwan_1 7-Jan-10 20:19  I'm having a problem when using a msgbox on a second loaded form. I have two forms ... frmMain (default) and frmSecondary. When the program is run, frmSecondary will eventually be loaded and displayed as the active window (both are maximized, frmMain is still loaded in the background). Now, when a msgbox is used to advise the user of some occurence on frmSecondary, the frmSecondary disappears and frmMain suddenly appears behind the msgbox. Once the msgbox is clicked(i.e.,closed) the frmMain disappears (usually),and again reveal the frmSecondary. I would be grateful if someone could tell me why this is occurring.
