Is it at all required to produce Grayscale using Bitmap when you can do this easily using Opacity of a form ??

How can you turn other windows gray by setting opacity of the form?

Just place the transparent form(with black background) over all other window and set opacity to a value less than 50%... maybe it could animate the opacity from 0 to 50....
It will be done automatically...

Actually no.
Just tested it and you can still see the colors of the underlaying windows.
All this does is put a grayish 'film' over it but the colors of any window behind it are still very visible.

No. That wont turn the title bar of the windows behind to gray. Background windows will still be olive green (as per my system settings).
You need to use similar mechanism as what XP uses or digg in to Nish's article. Since it is in C++, I don't get much out of it.

Well, if you need replica of XP feature, AFAIK you got two ways:
1. Find how windows does that and maybe P/Invoke the dll.
2. Use what is there in the article.
If you can settle with ModalPopUp (Ajax) like background, use a Panel and play with its AlphaGradient. Or use a new form as you suggested.

Dear All,
I have drillthrough report which uses RDLC and every thing works fine.
but when I click on Back Button "Back to Parent" it provides the error "Some Parameters or Creditional have not been specified"
this error does not provide much information.
I would really appreciate your cooperation why this error appears? It only appears when clicking in Back to Parent Button

What back button are you talking about?
Are you talking about the back button in the browser?
If so, then I think as back button shows the cached page from the browser, it cant call the Iframe source which is placed as Report viewer properly.
So it is always better to show only the Report viewer inside a new window using window.open to overcome this sort of situation.

Its is the back button in ReportViewer.

Are you talking about navigation between data using Reportviewer toolbar ?
Are you missing out some parameters ?
If you dont need back button, you can disable it using ShowBackbutton property...
Debug your application using Breakpoint to check where actually the error producing.

I dont have parameters and iam not getting any error in report preview.
I dont have any code in Back Event, my question was what the error says?
what is creditionals or parameters where I dont have parameters for that reports.
when the report drills every thing goes fine but in back button that error appears.

I’m using C# code to collect device data. Also I’m using MSComLib.dll to interact with the device.
If the device data size exceeds 3MB, then the data collection will not be complete.
I doubt on the USB-Serial converter driver.
Can anybody suggest me a patch to resolve this issue?

I've already tried SerialPort and faced a similar issue. I guess this has something to do with the flow control. I donot have control on the hardware part, but software - MSCommLib and SerialPort are the options I've tried. I've tried all the possible baudrates which the device supports, but in vain.
I've observed this: The combination of VB-MSCOmmLib.dll works on any system
C# - MSCommLib works fine only where the MS VS 6.0 is installed.
I also tried registering the MSCommLib.dll on non-VS 6.0 system, but its the same problem.

you only get questions now,l for you to answer and deduce reasonable conclusions yourself:
what is the difference between mm and nn???
what type is dateTimePicker1.Value?
why would you turn it into a string and then parse that string? that type has a lot of interesting Properties. Start reading the documentation on that type!
and what is the type of your database table's "time" field? are mm and nn in your SQL of the same type as time?

1. You are comparing a date and integer. Compare dates with dates. You should use your date time picker's value right away.
2. See you select command:

Entire thing is a string. How is it supposed to get the values in mm and nn? You should read about SQLParameters class and use it.
Also, from the ToString overload you are using, it shows that you are just checking the day part of the date. Do you really want to do that way? If you want to check that way, you should use day(time) instead on time in your SQL and then compare. But be sure that this will ONLY compare the day part and not the month and year.
Edit: Missed what Luc spotted. Both mm and nn will have same values. So, why not just check equality with one value instead of two?

Then you need to compare against a DateTime not just an integer variable that has date.
DateTime mm = dateTimePicker1.Value;
DateTime nn = dateTimePicker2.Value;

To use transaction construct(as follows) in C#, MSDTC needs to be running on Windows machine. Right?

1. Is MS-DTC a default service on Windows systems(XP, Vista, Windows 7, Servers etc)?

You don't need it with the newer versions of SQL server like 2005 or 2008. It is only required if you are using SQL 2000. If you are using Oracle, then you need this service.

Not new to programming, but fairly new to .Net.
I have learned enough about C# to actually start doing something productive, but I am having trouble putting it all together. Most Windows Forms apps start by setting up the environment, opening databases, displaying the desktop, menu, etc. I'm so used to working with code snippets and other pieces of an application, that I don't know how, nor am finding in any resource I have studied, to correctly set up an application.
A picture is worth a thousand words, and would like to ask any members if there are any good, complete, example applications on this site (or anywhere else) that I can use as a springboard? Any help would be appreciated!
