Hello All,

I hope this is the correct forum, please excuse me if it is not.

I am new to VS/C#. I have managed to make a simple service and MSI installer for it. What I need to do is make a change to the msi to read 3 command line arguments and record them in either the apps configuration file for the installed service or record them to the registry. If to the registry, I can change my service to read from it.

The installer project does not have an obvious code (*.cs) page, so I am unsure how to proceed.

Thanks mark...I am reading material now and running the SDK download to get Orca. To bad MS does not have that in a separate download...oh well.

the author looks to make a number guesses about the inner workings of the wid file structures....still reading the link but I recall seeing something on WiX, a series of tools and xml file used to make a msi file, does anyone have experience with this and would this also be able to meet me requirements?

Hi,

I've files stream (basically an excel file) and that can be walk through as rows and columns (dataset) ? if so please sample if you have anything or tell me the steps that i need to follow.

I've voted one for your message, here is why:

1) You haven't told us what you have tried.
2) Asking for a sample immediately is bad form, especially as you seemingly haven't tried anything
3) You can easily type "c# read excel file" into good and get lots of starting points.

Hi,

I am using BMC AR remedy client 7.1. I have deloped an application in C# to fetch data from some tables of this database. The problem is that I am not getting the data for some rows for which value is a large string.
I tried using OdbcDataAdapter.Fill() and OdbcDataReader.GetString(0) API's to fetch data. Both of them fails if the value is a large string. Also, it doesn't timeout and the execution stays at this call only and application used to hang.
There is a inconsistency in the output of the query for different records. For some records, it works fine and for some data is missing and for some the same query hangs.

Eveything was working fine for the AR REmedy client 6.20. Only after upgrading it, I started getiing this problem.

- Is there a better way to fetch data from a ODBC database through C#?
- How to set a timeout value for the query execution so that the application dowe not hang?

Query: SELECT cloumn1 FROM tablename WHERE column1.value='00000';

I contacted the supplier and was told that earlier they were using SQL server and they have moved to Oracle.
Will this make a change.
Also, my 2 questions remain unaswered

- Is there a better way to fetch data from a ODBC database through C#?
- How to set a timeout value for the query execution so that the application does not hang? i.e how to avoid execution of OdbcDataAdapter.Fill() and OdbcDataReader.GetString(0) API's infinitely?

Yeah, use the provider for the database engine you're connceting to. ODBC is the "generic" provider and it's data types may not match up to nor work 100% with the database engines native data types.

If your connecting to an Oracle database, look into reading this[^].

I tried to fetch data from the database using MS Excel and it worked fine. Also, tried with VB, the results are as expected. It fails/retrieves less no of records with the queries using OdbcDataAdapter.Fill() and OdbcDataReader.GetString(0).

- How to set a timeout value for the query execution so that the application does not hang? i.e how to avoid execution of OdbcDataAdapter.Fill() and OdbcDataReader.GetString(0)?
- Is there a manual way to fetch data in C# rather than using the APS's?

Good morning.

I was wondering if there was an easy way to access the list of folders and subfolders from a SharePoint site.

I have the following so far:

Hi there,

I am looking to create an application that uses SNMP to map a basic network, however i have never used SNMP and am struggling to implement it - i am not quite sure where to start.

I have read numerous articles about SNMP on the web ranging from the basics to the defined RFC's as well as example code and i am still completely in the dark. I get the idea of how SNMP works using managers and clients, OIDs, Mibs etc but have no idea how to go about it with C# code.

Could someone please assist me!

Well it "runs" over UDP right, so I guess you could just use an UDP socket?
I've never used SNMP though so maybe I'm completely missing the point..

Does anyone know if there is a way of getting the default image of a file to show in a file browser.

ie .txt image will be notepad etc.

Is there a way of finding this from "System.io.DirectoryInfo" or is there some other way i could retrieve this name.

I can then display the correct type of image for the file in my browser
