To tell you the truth, I'd be surprised if this gets "fixed" for Windows 7 and am shocked to hear that it was in XP. I think the wave of the future is to have higher density monitors and most "balanced" systems won't mix 96 DPI monitors with 144 DPI monitors. That said, I haven't yet seen stand-alone monitors much above 100 DPI. But I don't see how you can hold the technology back. Who wouldn't like 3840x2400 24" monitors running at 192 DPI? You could stick your nose in images and see further details. Photographers would fall over themselves for such a monitor.
