Hi everyone.

I am looking for a free library to add a forum to a web site.
It's for a fun club site i am starting with a friend of mine.

I'd like to hear your opinion on which is the best with good set of features. Some of the features i'd like to have are:
-ease of layout customization,
-the ability to translate it to my native language (greek)
-and use of ASP.NET membership provider.

Unfortunately the last couple of years my job required me to do flash & AS fulltime, so i straggle to catch up with the new stuff in ASP.net. D'Oh! | :doh:

Community server is pretty famous and I guess they got a community edition which will be free to use. Also have a look at Codeplex[^] and you will find many.

I have seen Community server in action and really is impressive, but i wouldn't go for a commercial product.

I have already searched the codeplex [the first place i visit for open source projects targeting C#], but I have no first-hand experience of any of those.
I would love to hear some opinions from people who had allready worked with a handfull of forums and settle to one or two.

Have you considered building a website using DotNetNuke (DNN) ? There is a free forum that comes with the basic installation of the DNN software and there are tons of really great modules (such as forums) that you can purchase.

I want to get ClientID of Div tag in javascript so can you please help me for that?

i have declare div with runat="server".

var divId = document.getElementById('<%=Parent.ClientID%>');

but divId returns null

So can you please help me how i want to get clientID of div?

Just simply use

var divId = document.getElementById('YourDivID');

You need ClienID for Server Side control. And i believe your div is in your client side .

Parent should be the ID of Div and should be runat=server.Is it so?

Yes parent is id of div and i have given runat="server" with div tag

for your information my script in common place like inside .js file
and if i want to write same statement in page i get that ClientId

so can you please help me out how can i get div client id in common js?

Are you the clientID of your div.

Try this
First assign the clientid in javascript variable like
var hdnCtlSelectedItem = "<%=Parent.ClientID%>";

then check whether the you are getting the clientid.and pass this ID to javascript function i external JS file
Afterthat access the divid using
document.getElementById(hdnCtlSelectedItem);

Where is the above code written? In the external JS file? If yes, it is not gonna work. You need move this to your page, get the client id and pass to your JS method which may be in external file.

You cannot use server side code like document.getElementById('<%=Parent.ClientID%>'); in your external .js file.

Declare a global variable in your page and store the id of div tag in it.
Then refer this variable in the .js file to get the client id.

Declare this variable in your page:

var yourDivId = '<%=Parent.ClientID%>';

Write this code in the .js file to get the above div id

var objDiv = document.getElementById(yourDivId);

Hi all,

I have write a JavaScript function and calling the function on body load event,
in that function i am assigning a value to hidden field control. On Page behind i am need to use the hidden filed value in a function so i am accessing the field value but each and every time i am getting the value as "" (blank) because first the server side code execute and after that the JavaScript code execute. I want to run the JavaScript function before running server side code so that i can get the hidden field value. Please help me to solve the problem?

On load event i am passing this value to a function and by using the value i am retrieving
data from my db.

i am working on an application which has seperate web projects under same solution.Instead of developing a master page for each and every project , Is there a way we can have a master page in solution level and use that master page in different projects under the same solution?
