When I click on a post in one of the forums, the message is displayed, but then the page reloads moving the message to the top of the browser (kind of hard to describe). Is this a bug? Or have I clicked on something accidently that's caused this to become the default behavior when I'm browsing the forums? I'm using IE 7.

I think it is time Oakman relieves himself of The Back Room now that he has established his own private group. He does not, or at least should not have the power to pin a message permanently to purposely destroy a free and public forum.
Also, I want to add, that he is abusing his powers of moderation.

I say it is. Oakman has abused his powers of moderation. It is time for him to relieve himself <b>permanently</b> now that he has his own little private group. His pinned message definitely needs to be unpinned as it has been up for too long and is clearly am abuse of a free and public forum. I started a thread in the Suggestions and Bugs forum and needs your support. Support this to the fullest extent to bring justice to Oakman who's power of moderation has and is being abused.
Note that this message has been deleted once, which clearly emphasizes how important it is for his powers be nullified, quickly and permanently.

Apparently CSS, who has consistently violated the TOS and who has defied Chris to do anything about it, now complains that he is getting less than a fair shake. I have presumed that Chris asked me to moderate that forum because he felt that the worst excesses of our two resident trolls needed to be curbed.
CSS's OP assumes that I am the only one with the power to delete messages in what is left of the back Room. This is incorrect. To my certain knowldge, Christian Gaus can do it and, of course, Chris can do it. Christian suggested awhile back that CSS was deleting his own messages in an attempt to discredit him and me.
I freely admit that I have deleted some of CSS's messages simply because they contained little other than a vulgarity-filled personal attack on one cp-ite or another. While the Back Room was designed as a ghetto for those who could not accept the simple rules of the Lounge, Christian and I were not appointed by Chris do do nothing. That my censorship has not been heavy-handed can be seen by anyone who holds his nose long enough to read enough of CSS's extant posts and realise just how vile he can be.
Chris, I serve at your pleasure of course. An argument can be made that with the advent of Soapbox 1.0 there is no longer any need for moderation of the Back Room and it should simply be allowed to fester.

You have been selectively deleting message in a pursuit to harass me and Ilion. If we are not allowed to harass people, than neither are you. You are not above the rules you are supposed to enforce. You and DD have been using The Back Room as a dumping ground to harass two individuals. You and DD's and anyone else who participates in such filth should have their messages deleted as if they were mine or Ilions. The fact that you would delete the above message that does not violate any terms or conditions clearly shows that you are not fit to be a moderator.

No. I asked the users of that board to nominate moderators so they could look after their own affairs. That forum degraded into purely juvenile behaviour and it was no longer of any interest to me to maintain.
You guys do what you wish with that forum. I set no rules on moderation and offered no guidelines. If you no longer wish to be part of that forum then you can go to you 'My Settings' page, go to groups, and delete yourself from the Back room moderators group.

I'm trying to change my profile pic, and I find it really difficult to produce an image that's less than 15KB in size.
The image restrictions haven't changed since at least 2002, when I joined - surely CP can afford something like 250x250, 100KB per user image?

This restriction is in place to help readers conserve bandwidth. If you're having trouble getting tan image down to 15Kb then can you please send it to me? I'm happy to experiment and see what kinds of images you're looking to post and what a reasonable image size (given sensible compression) would be.
Failing that we can do compression on the server for you.

Given the image is displayed only on the profile and article pages (and not the forums), and that a typical CP page is fairly large, I think a 50KB image wouldn't be much worse than a 15 KB image.
FWIW, Server-side compression sounds like a good idea too.

Wow! Emailing an image for reducing its size? 
You could have done it with something like paint .NET. Alternatively, you could use one of those online image editors like Pixlr[^] (While saving the image, just set the quality of the image to see changes in the file size).

I've used Irfan View since then, and while it does the job in terms of size, I like Chris' ACD See image better. While your and Shog's comments have given me teeny weeny doubts on my sanity (or at least skills), I still think 15 KB is too small. Maybe I am spoilt by Facebook and Last.fm.

You were not able to do it with Paint .NET? It is a straight forward thing... While saving the image (resize if required first, and then save as), reset the quality of the image (with the slider it would show) and the resultant file size would be shown aside simultaneously...

By doing essentially nothing other than resizing to make it fit our specs I got your image to 6Kb. That was without even bothering to fiddle with compression.
15Kb is more than enough for anyone.

I am also facing the same issue for large profile pics. I tried compressing the image using Photoshop CS6 and Microsoft office picture manager. But still it does not upload to CP. I somehow managed to compress it to less than 15kb and below 150x150 pixels but still it does not show my profile pic. I am really feeling bad that i cant show my pic to my profile. Please allow someway to automatically itself to lower the resolution or reduce the size without sacrificing its quality.
Its my humble request to you.

Chrome on XP
In the C# section, I tried to 5 DaveyM69 by I accidentally hit 'bad answer'. All fine and dandy, nothing a reload and another click can't fix, so when I reloaded I noticed that his rating was uneffected by my vote. Ok... so I hit 'Good Answer' again and it said 'message marked as answered' etc, and went along my way to the lounge to do absolutely anything but work.
I went back to the C# section to see if any new threads popped up, and alas my vote went awol again!?. It took a *third* vote to make it stick, I reloaded C# and it is still there... for now...
Bug or could it be chrome perhaps?

Nope.
It could be caching, though.
We have a web farm, and each farm caches its own copy of the messages which are updated periodically. When you vote we try and make it so that you see updated information, but don't worry about what others will see (that data will catch up soon enough). Sounds like the system was bumping you too quickly and showing you older cached info.
