My developer was hosting my site himself, we had some problems with him and he offered to give my files and get it hosted elsewhere. Now my isssue is no one can make any sense of the files he has given me. All i seem to be getting is people telling me i need the .asp files. I have no idea what i need to do. i feel like the developer is playing games.

Well, dotnetnuke is a framework.

There are no asp files in a .NET website. There are aspx files. Do the people you're talking to know what they are talking about ? Did you tell them it's dotnetnuke ?
I've never used it, but if you download it from http://www.dotnetnuke.com/[^], I would expect it's likely that it has the aspx files you need, and possible that the files you have been given will configure it to run as you like. If you had any sort of data stored, then you need a database backup as well, so it seems possible your old developer is playing some sort of game, but in the first instance, what you're saying doesn't gel, either.

I have been speaking to so many people all of them tell me a different thing. I dont need the database that was linked to the site, basically he had created a site for me. which then he created a custom coded online reservation system which i would asume he was using the database for. Now I didn't keep the custom system as there were a few disagreements and we separated the website from the system. he said if I like i can go and host the website elsewhere which i took up the offer. the only file I received from him were with the extension .tepmlate and . resources
So now i cant get the site back online because no one can help me. i have spent the last 5 days trying to get it back online.
my knowledge with this is very minimul so its frustrating to solve.

OK, if the site was not live, or you're happy to start again and lose all data, then you may have what you need.

Well, I'm not sure where else to suggest you ask. I'd think the dotnetnuke site probably is a good place to try. It's *possible* that when dotnetnuke is installed, the files he gave you are all you need to configure it as you'd like. I've never used it, I'm probably at the limit of what I can personally suggest. Perhaps someone else who has used it, will comment further.

I am trying to append static text to a bound field in the range validator ErrorMessage field. The code below works fine but as soon as I try to append any static text it either throws an error or just displays the static text. Any help would be appreicated.

should also work. Bind, is that right ? I thought it was Eval ?

Hi Christian,
I wasn’t able to get your first suggestion to work but I was able to get your second suggestion to work. You were correct it didn’t work with Bind I needed to substitute for eval. I am not sure why because if you don’t want to append any text bind works just fine. This is the code I ended up using:
ErrorMessage='<%# string.Format("Invalid Qty for {0}", eval("item_short_desc")) %>

Hello All,
I've run into a problem I need some assistance with.
I have 2 gridviews on a webform. The first one displays some master information (customer id, order,
etc). The gridview is setup to allow selections. My plan is to display the details in another gridview depending on the selected line.
The problem that I am having is that I need to have 4 elements to perform the stored procedure to display the details. I setup gridview1 to have the 4 elements as "DataKeyNames" and I setup Gridview2 to use Gridview1 as the origin for the elements (Control --> Gridview1).
I have no problem displaying details if there is only one element needed (another stored procedure) but I want to drill down further so I have defined the 4 elements.
How can I get gridview2 to display the details provided by gridview1.

With diligence I was able to figure this issue out. I am using and SQLDataSource as the object to run my SP. Under the "Define Parameters" section of the wizard, I had to define each parameter with
"GridView1.SelectedDataKey[0-3]" instead of "SelectedValue". I found this under the advance properties link.
The SelectedDataKey[n] value corresponds to the enumeration of the values passed from GridView1
Just an FYI to anyone else who may run into this issue.

I am doing a project named 'web-based risk analysis tool for home computer users' and I have a questionaire to be filled out by the home user and then check risks level (score) the computer. Can anyone tell me an accurate and efficient method to calculate risks level according to answers. I have to present this main logic within 5 days. I really need ur precious help.

Surely the calculation will have been given to you? Or is this a risk analysis class? In which case what have you learned about calculating risks?
When a bank wants to have a program to calculate risk, they have risk analysts work out the risk model and they pass that to the developers who write the code to make the program. The programmer is generally not required to also figure out how to calculate this risk. In any event, there are many different ways to calculate risk.

Actually I m looking for a suitable risk model to apply which can calculate risks..they havnt given any concept to use..for example: Jacobson's matrix window which uses formula like "Risk score = Impact of threat occurring x Probability of threat occurring"

I am trying to learn something about the AJAX controls available for ASP.NET.
I am using VS 2005. I download the install for ASP.NET AJAX 1.0. It completes and creates a directory C:\Program Files\Microsoft ASP.NET\ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extensions\v1.0.61025. From there I try to Browse from my VS Toolbox "Add Items". When I browse for System.Web.Extensions.dll, I get a few ScriptManager Controls.
However, when I browser for System.Web.Extensions.Design.dll or AJAXExtensionsToolbox.dll, I get a message that there are no controls in the DLL to be added to the Toolbox. Yet, I thought that there are supposed to be 30 or more AJAX controls that should be added.
What am I doing worng?

I thought that is what I was trying to add. I downloaded the Toolkit and installed it. All it appeared to do was add some files to C:\Program Files.
What else am I supposed to do?

I am totally new to web based vb.net programming. I want to be able to copy data from Excel and paste it to the datagridview in a web form. I know how to do this for windows form, but it isn't working for the web form. Any ideas?

My requirement is to run an EXE in remote system. Consider my application is in 'System A' and EXE is in 'System B'. Now i have to run the EXE in System B. How to do this.
I am using ASP.Net with C#
I am working in this for last two days, still didnt got any solutions. I have already tried with 'System.Diagnostics.Process', I can able to run locally but cant able to run in Remote system.
System B is not a client system. Its a separate remote system. Where files be stored. I have just to trigger the EXE their.
Any solution/steps/code will be more helpful. Thanks in advance.

You should be able to run the executable through System.Diagnostics.Process, however you need enough permissions to do this. You may want to run your website in impersonate mode and require a login for your website. I would not recommend this though...
Maybe explain us what you want, then someone may come with a better solution?

This sounds like something that could be solved with a webservice.
The webservice could "listen" for things like, start, stop, progress commands. You could then have one machine send these commands to the webservice.
Just a suggestion.
