Hi all,
we had a new system which acts as a backup server for all the members in our lab. Its a windows XP x64 system with bunch of shared folders for each member in the lab and it also acts as an FTP server for our lab, Maltab license server and also as Kaspersky admin server. Using SyncBack_NI, we are able to backup our systems regularly and all is fine for a while. All the client systems are windows XP x86 systems and setting up network share of their shared folder, they all are able to backup their systems fine for a couple of days, then the problems starts with windows network sharing, sometimes out of the blue it says access denied and then you need to disconnect and do some nbtstat refreshing and delete all the mountpoints for network shares and then redo all the steps for adding network shares, even then sometimes it still says access denied and sometimes it works for a while and to be honest we are quite tired of using windows network sharing.
So, now we are seriously looking for an alternative for this and get rid of this XP network sharing problems. Except network share access probems on client systems everything else works fine. Currently all the backup files are stored without any compression (as raw files) and users can access their files from backup system normally as they do from their local system. Any ideas/tips please???

Save the following to a .reg file
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters]
"autodisconnect"=dword:00000000
Then run it.
It will make the time that XP maintains mountpoints for shares be 0....Get what you need and disconnect. It should help a lot.
the value is F by default (15)

I installed microsoft office 2003 on server machine and I want to share
office 2003 for network users . I notwant to install office 2003 on all the network machine . how can I do this . please describe if possible .

You can use Terminal Server to "share office 2003". However, Terminal Server licencing is a beast. I remember that you'd need one licence for the server and one for every user who is going to be using Office.
Also, you need a powerful machine in order to deal with several users at once. Office is not exactly easy on the resources.
I would always go with the local installation. You can automate the installation process, so why not go that way? And you only need one licence per user.

There is any other solution except Terminal server.
I searched on Google for this , there I found two method for sharing installed software one is "Terminal Server" and another is "Creating DFS root" .
I don't know about "Creating DFS root", is it easy method then Terminal server or
Terminal server is the best way for sharing installed software .

I have written code in asp.net to start a application on remote machine. It is working fine. But on remote machine the process is executing in background. How to bring it to foreground ?

You can't. You cannot start a user-interactive process on a remote machine, for what I think are obvious reasons.

It requires some really arcane logic with the service control manager, and a certain measure of permissions on the target machine, but it can be done. I have a 'remote installer' for a headless machine on one of our products. It copies the install package to the destination machine and then executes it remotely by installing a service that creates an interactive session and runs the install package.

Dear all,
I have the following problem, the cpu usage for the wmiprvse.exe is 99%, am using WIN XP pro SP3, the file is in the location, C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem ,Normal location,which indicates it is not virus.
I need to fix the problem. I googled but no satisfactory solution.
Any ideas or help??

For one server, when I log in using MSTSC, I cannot log off.
Start/log off asks "do you really want to log off", I say "yes", and nothing happens.
shutdown /l says and does nothing.
Ctrl+Alt+End doesn#t show any dialog
Help!

You could look in the eventlog if there is a reason logged for overriding the logoff.

Looking into the Application (!) event log helped - fixing what I saw requested a reboot, haven't hd the problem since.

Hello,
I am getting "error 5: access is denied " message when trying robocopy:
robocopy c:\user\myuser\Documents\myfile.txt c:\user\myuser\mydest /E /XO stagein.txt
This happens only when i try to copy a file present is existing folder in user's home, such as:
c:\users\myuser\documents or c:\user\myuser etc.
Interestingly, if i create my own folder under these folders and try copying a file from there, it works.
I have tried giving full permissions, changing acls etc. with cacls . But with no avail.
Any help is appreciated.
