how to view SOAP/HTTP messages sent by .NET client

Hi,

I'm a newbie to C# programming and .NET framework.

IS there a way to view soap/HTTP messages sent by .NET client to a web server(on which the web service is Smile | :)

hosted)

Please clarify.

I have a user control in which I need to bind a list of State abbreviations to a dropdown list. I have an array as follows:

string[] foo = {"CA","MA","HA","WA"};<br />

I tried to use the Page Load event to initialize the dropdown with the values as follows:

<br />
ddlData.DataSource = foo;<br />
ddlData.DataBind();<br />

I know the code is pristine but for some reason the Page Load isn't getting fired off in the control.

Thats because it gets fired on the page, not the control Smile | :)

I have a web page set up with several different frames. I am using some
JavaScript in an .aspx page to populate a "Tree View" type of appearance. I
have 3 seperate databases with 4 tables in each that I want to display in
the "main" frame (via command buttons in a "bottom" frame). I would like to
be able to select a database in the "Tree View" and then be able to select
one of the 4 tables in a "bottom" frame to populate the main frame. I have
been able to pupulate the main frame with one table, but I do not know how
to let the "bottom" frame know what database to choose from to display one
of the four tables. Any help would be appreciated.

to refer to a variable in a different frame you just have to use the:
parent.frames collection.
Each of your frames should have a name that you use to refer to it, eg:

parent.frames["myframe"].myvar

This isn't the exact same thing but it should give you a good idea-

Web User Control Issues

Hey all. I have a very simple user control for a phone number. It consists of three textboxes (area code, prefix and number). I want to define a readonly property that returns a string with all three values concatenated. I define the control, I add the following for the property:

return AreaCode.Text + Prefix.Text + Extension.Text;<br />

But when I tried to refer to it from the CodeBehind page on the ASPX file that I've got it hosted on it doesn't have a reference to the control.

So I just manually declared it in the ASPX file and everything worked fine.

Is there a way to force VS.NET to declare UserControls on the codebehind page when you drag them into the page?

Can ASP pages run on Redhat Linux 7.1? I don't want to spent money on this. I have a small web page built in ASP. And I'd like to have it run on my linux 7.1 (Redhat) box. Is this possible for 1. And twp can it be down for free with some rpm installation or other package available for linux?

There's a couple of options I know of. Unfortunately I think they're all commercial, anyway, first option is ChiliSoft's ChiliAsp. The other is Halcyon Software's iASP (Instant ASP). Both are pretty easy to install (I've used ChiliAsp).

If you are using Linux, just use PHP. If you are serious about doing ASP/ASP.NET development, then use Windows.

Hi,

Do any of you know of an ad-rotator, that uses a timer? We would like to display banners, that "auto-rotate" as it were, every 20 secs or so, without the page being refreshed. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't take too long to write in Javascript, but was just wondering if one existed already.

Im trying to add the SelectSingleNode funktion supported i MSXML
to Netscape/Mozilla. By implementing a prototyp-funktion that
wraps the Moz corresponding native-implementation.

Has any one done this ore a suggestion on artikels.

The idea is not to loop the XMLdocument finding the corresponding
node to the xpath, but to use the Mozilla xpath funktionality.

When I am executing the ASP script, if the script times out for some reason then I want to trap that error and display the error friendly message to the user. How do I do it?

you must modify the default error page.

look in "Internet Information Services"
in the properties of the site under the tab "Custom Errors"

I have one page on the site which the user can print. Now when the user prints the page, the header and footer of the browser is also displayed. How can I remove this header and footer using the ASP or Javascript code?

In Internet Explorer you cannot remove the header and footer using JavaScript or ASP. IE intentionally seperates the browser UI from the HTML document and only selected methods and properties are modifiable, header and footer not being one of them.

I think there is a way to do it via a JavaApplet, but I do not actually know how or where I heard that (and not that I would actually want to use a JavaApplet.) Smile | :)

I need to get the server name. I am currently getting it using:
Request.ServerVariables("SERVER_NAME")
Is there a better way to retrieve this using Asp.Net?

Sure, that should work, but in the same way as "Request" is a predefined HttpWebRequest, "Server" is a predefined HttpServerUtility. There should never be a reason to define a new one.

Hi all

I have a problem with selected items Dead | X|

I do this :

foreach (ListItem item in CheckBoxList1.Items)

  if (item.Selected) //this always returns false, why???
    //do my stuff
}

I have noticed the IsDirty is allways true for each item. What am I doing wrong?

I've just tried this out, thinking it must be something simple but I have exactly the same problem.

In addition, if you set it to AutoPostBack and give it a handler for "SelectedIndexChanged" (because that's how the example in MSDN works)then it posts back but doesn't call the event.

Bizarre.

Have you thought about using normal Checkboxes? If you need to bind it, try a DataRepeater. A bit naff but it's the best I've got.

I found out what I was doing wrong. In my page load event i was creating the checkboxes from an enum, BUT page load gets fired again before button click is handled (something I guess I have to keep in mind all the time). This was my solution:

private bool setup = true;

private void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e)

		setup = (bool) ViewState["setup"];
	} 
	catch (System.NullReferenceException){}
	if (setup) SetupPage();

Read setup as setup? (Do you want to setup?).... Smile | :)

Similar. I had it Databound at the bottom of a page I'd already written and this.Databind() (too lazy to databind 8 dropdownlists and a textbox) in the Page_Load.

You have no idea how many times I've fallen into this trap of Page_Load running first. It seems so illogical. Roll eyes | :rolleyes:
