Who's SQL are you using? What firewall do you have? (if you have one)?
Not trying to be a jerk, just trying to figure out what tools you have available.

With the MS SQL 2005 Enterprise manager; There is a 'Management' entry on the treeview pane. Expand that out and then the SQL server logs. Under there is an entry named 'Activity Monitor'. Double click on that and it will denote all of your connections to the database. Toward the end of the list of columns on the page is a 'Host' column. It should either give you the resolved host name if it is a local address (and you have a DNS server), or the TCP/IP address of the connected machine otherwise.
If the person is not actually connecting, you can see the connection attempts in the Windows Security Event log. If you don't you need to change the local policies on the machine, but by default they are set to record that activity.

You can increase the timeout on your connection/command, or better still optimise your proc as you may be doing a table scan or something similar - no way to tell from your code.

Set it to 0 to run the query indefinately .ie until you get the result.
When you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.

where to do that and how to do that ??
|
|

use the sqlcommand CommandTimeOut property....
ie
your_cmd_obj.CommandTimeOut=0

I am using a datareader ...and not using it through commands, so we cant set it ...

In which case I suggest you consider some of the followng:
- do you need to return all the data at once?
- could the underlying data be denormailised into reporting tables?
- could some of the data be cached?
- could the indexing be improved?
I am fairly certain that if the query times out, and you are displaying the data on a web page it will be pointless, as nobody wants to wait ages for a page to load.
Hopefully this may guide you to a solution

What about load on the sql server? Any locking causing problems, that sort of thing? Without actually being there its difficult to pinpoint where the problem is.

Hi,
"I want that my website should be viewable to 10,000 persons at the same time.
Also they might insert, or delete data from the database.
How will you do it".
This was one of the questions posed in an interview.
Apart from poolsize, what should I answer for the above question.

Hmm..
Did you ever check top left corner of in Codeproject Sites, that 6,006,898 members and growing! (24,514 online)
It means all online user may view the sites same times and can insert post, replying on post [ AS I am doing ], etc....

This is very common behavior of web sites, for large number of user you many need a strong backend server and all user need to maintain by session only
You can also set the maximum number of request in IIS. Create Separate Application Pool for the Site, assign that Application pool, change the Application pool Maximum Request Limit.
