If you have different names for __EventFilter and ActiveScriptEventConsumer just replace EF and ASEC with the leaving everything else as it is. Personally, I would use this only if any other options (ones that let you use queries, like VBSCript, System.Management namespace or PowerShell) were unavailable.

Hi, currently I'm studying from this book[^] and now I'm get stuck on chapter 6 when I try to setup the cluster server in lesson 1. After I read from the book and follow an instruction, I setup my machine in the following manner:
1. Server01 running windows 2003 Enterprise and configure as Domain Controller, two network card and two hard disk were install.
2. Network configure as the following: Private: IP address 192.168.0.1, no default gateway, DNS point to its IP address. Public: IP address 192.168.1.1, no default gateway, DNS point to its IP address.
3. The first hard disk use all space formatted with NTFS and install windows 2003. The second hard disk is use all space and formatted with NTFS and leave it blank. Both disk are IDE disk.
The problem occure when I try start and configure cluster administration prior to install my exchange.
When I start the analyze phase, an error occure that there is no quorum disk found and its will use the local resource.
On the wizard page when they ask me to define the public IP address, i have enter an IP address of the public interface (mention above) but it not allow me go start. It display the message that IP is already in use.
I really difficult to work with this problem and if any one has the solution please let me know because i don't want to give up reading this book. This book cause me alot of the problem before until now.

Hi,
I'm having a very weird issue with my laptop running Windows XP Pro SP3.
Everytime I click the shutdown button from the Start menu, I get the option of installing updates and shutting down the computer. This has happened at least 4 or 5 times in a row now, and everytime I choose to install the update(s), it only installs a single update and then shuts down.
What's going on here?

The update is failing installation. Every time I've had something like that happen, I've ended up rebuilding the machine.
Check the event log for any errors.

I checked the event log, and you are right. The update is failing to install,
but the update is for an application I never use anyway, so I'm removing it now.

Lucky me. The updates I've had crash on me were always to Windows, not an application like Office.

Hello everybody,
Here is my problem :
I have a module which is loaded by WIA serivice(which in turn runs under Svchost.exe),
and the module adds a port(for example: 9705:TCP) to firewall's exceptio list.
It uses INetFwOpenPorts::Add() method for the purpose.
But the method INetFwOpenPorts::Add() fails with error E_ACCESSDENIED.
When I try to do so by loading my module in a normal NT service it successfully does that.
I am wandering is there any problem of Fireweall exception list and Svchost.exe.
Please help me.
FYI: I am using Windows Vista OS.

Dear all,
I got a Laptop for my friend suffering the following problems:
- When u turn on the laptop, the Network card is disabled already by default
- When i turn it to enabled a blue screen comes up on the whole screen of the monitor, it tilt, and freezez. i have to force shutdown.
The laptop is DELL and with WINXPSP3 OS.
Any help ??

Start with updating the driver for the Network card.
Check that you're not having more than one software firewall.
Check for virus.

What Model of Dell
You can check the Cmos setup and make sure the Nic is enable and also check what setting options you have. You can get to the setup by pressing the F2 or F10 one of thoes function keys.

Is it possible to permanently assign the CAL from the one Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 package that is not currently being used to the one that is, increasing the existing CAL.

I've created a file extension for my application that no one seems to use. (I know, "Yeah, right!"  )
Anyway, I'd like to register the file extension with windows to display a human-friendly description.
Let's say, I chose 'doc' as my file extension.
Instead of 'doc File', I want windows to Display 'Word Document'.
I'm actually looking for a script that I could use during the install process. How would I go about doing that?

I have a problem with DCOM configuration in Windows Web Server 2008.
I use, into asp.net 2005 app, a COM Object (OpenOffice) to convert a document in PDF format. The code run ok in Windows Server 2003. But in Windows Web Server 2008, system dont allow me to config de DCOM Object check named 'run application on this computer'. The check is grayed out.

Hi,
I have a application that we installing on user's m/c in Admin credentials. But whenever user logs in as a normal user (without Admin credentials) we are trying to update the patch, which will replace some components (exe,dll) in "Program Files" directory. Since user doesn't have Admin credentials he will not be able to do so.
I woould like to know is there any way by which normal user will be able to update these patches, which will not require any Admin credentails.

Hi, I just read an article from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299648[^] about the date and time stamp in Windows.
From here I would like to have a question, if I copy the file to my flash drive. Is it possible for me to check the previous create date before this file is copy? (Mean the create date on my computer or the create date from the other computer if the file is copy from the other source).

You need to do research into writing your own "Credential Provider[^]" for Vista. This concept replaced the older GINA found in previous versions of Windows. And no, you can't use C# or VB.NET to do this. You're in stuck in the relm of C++.

Hi
I am trying to deploy a digital certificate (a test. pfx and a .cer) to users in a GPO. I have read that you can deploy the certificates by following the ensuing link in the GPO management view:
Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Public Key Policies\Trusted Publishers.
Yet I cant seem to find the above - mentioned folder structure. Only the Trusted Root Certification Authorities folder is visible.
Any suggestions on how to deploy certificates to a group of users in a domain without using the certmgr console?

Hi,
I've got a new HP machine and they've hidden some of their stuff in some sort of secret folder that I can only access when I have the full name of one of the files inside it and then only through the Explorer's Advanced search with the "include non-indexed, hidden,and system files" checked. I've been through all the usual folder options and applied a hack of the registry SHOWALL key. Has anybody seen anything like this and know how to list out the full folder?
