Why don't we have a form they use to contact you. On the form is a checkbox:
[ ] Are you a (insert list of undesirables)?
If they check "yes" it says "sorry, this consultant doesn't want to know you". If they check "no" and you get an email then they get marked (by you) and are sent a warning (by us). 3 strikes and they are out.

Would you expect to see Code Project acting as a arbiter (supreme authority of sorts) in terms of contracts, pricing, payments, problem resolution between parties and so on and so forth. Do you see this as an up-market, more professional version/variant of Rent-a-Coder ???

No, just CP providing the introduction and potentially a rating but staying out of the rest. Otherwise a conflict of interest could arise quite easily.

I don't think a checkbox is necessary. About half of my contracts come from agencies, and I don't want to discourage that. I can do my own filtering.
The idea of a Contractors' Board is a great one.

I tell the agencies I deal with what rate I want. What they make above that, is up to them. I don't care where the contracts come from, as long as I get the rate I ask for.

My concern is there are plenty of places to meet up with recruiters. Pick up a phone book, go to a job board, look anywhere and they are crawling out of the woodwork. I wouldn't pay for a service that gave me something I can get for free everywhere else. What I don't have is a cost-effective place to advertise my services to direct clients.

I hear what you're saying, but if I'm going to pay for an ad, I want as many eyeballs as possible to see it. In this economy, I don't want to miss anything, even if I have to do some weeding.

I agree with the idea of doing something along these lines to help consultants such as myself be visible to small-medium sized businesses who may have an interest as well. Seems like it would be an idea that would be win-win for everyone.

Whenever I try to paste into a message, all I get is an HREF open/close tag. Doesn't matter what I have on the clipboard (URL, code, etc). I tried unchecking "Auto-encode HTML when pasting?" but that doesn't do anything for me.
Thoughts?

Which browser, any add-ins (CPHog etc) and is there a minimum text you are trying to paste that causes the problem?

IE 7 (7.0.5730.11). No add-ins other than the common ones (Adobe PDF, Flash, Java engine, etc). Any text I try to paste yields the problem. I actually tried copying-and-pasting the "IE 7" I started this reply with and got the problem. Baffling...

My article had HTML escape characters for things like the Greek Delta symbol, but now they are all gone, leaving question marks in their place. Can someone suggest as to how that could have happened?

I just tried editing your article and inserted "ρ" and then previewed. Everything seems fine from my end.

Umm, it worked fine initially, on various browsers and platforms. My guess is someone has edited the original file and the editor lost the escape characters.

Hi,
when I add a message to an article that subsequently disappears, the message is still listed
in the "Latest Messages" page like so[^], but when clicked it shows a "The article you want to view was deleted ..."
page, resulting in my message being listed but yet unavailable to me!?!?

I would definitely use such a service when I next want a contract. It would cut out the agencies and narrow down the clients to those who at least know about CP - thus weeding out the real amateurs.
