For actual restore there is no other method. You need two databases if you want to have a stored procedure which does the restore. If you place the restore command into an application, you won't need another database.
Depending what you want to achieve, you can search for alternatives for restoring a database, such as detach/attach database, loading data using SSIS or bcp etc.

Using .Net (SqlConnection and SqlCommand classes):
- connect to SQL Server
- use master database (or connect directly to it)
- optionally disconnect other users from your database if there are any using the command from my previous post
- execute the restore statement
- release the database to multi user state
So basically the logic is the same, but it isn't placed inside a stored proc but a calling aplication which doesn't connect to your database (Vehicle) but to master database.

Thanks a lot.
i am stupid so i create temp database(and not use the master database).
Previously i use restore statement in code but with connection object i use the main database.
Now i use master database.
One more question what is the life time of this type of backup mean 1 day,2 day... (Please see my first post of this Thread for backup procedure)

I don't quite understand what you mean with lifetime?
You can take a backup today and restore it back one year later if you want. However you will loose then all changes that have taken place within a year. So a backup file is valid as long as you keep it somewhere safe.

I want the queries for indexing,Searching the words in my table and Advanced Searching.
I have solution for webpages searching, words in files searching but
any where i dont find Database searching.

There is no simple answer, what you are looking at is optimisation, and without knowing lots more information nobody can advise you. For example, how big is the table, what are the main queries going to be on?
Optimisation is a large subject with no cut and dried answers. If you are using sql server then look at the query plans, and sql server 2005 also has (under the Query menu) Analyze Query In database Engine Tuning Advisor which can give you some good guideline.

Databases don't store fonts. You either have char/varchar (standard ascii characters) or nchar/nvarchar which is unicode.

It sounds like he is storing font characteristics for some control in his database. If that is the case, what's so hard about replicating Access fields into SQL, doing the proper conversions of the field types?

I just started with SSRS and I created a report with the following structure:
MY MONTHLY EXPENSES
Total Income: $7,800.00
// Group by Week
Week: 1
Biller Name Amount Due Due Date

Sam's Club $15.00 9/11/2008

... and so on until the last week of the month. As you may noticed the second Week Balance is resulting from the subtraction of the Week Expense 2 value from the Total income what is incorrect since I previously subtract it from the previous week (total week 1), so it should be something like:
$7,635.00 (week balance 1) - $1,360 (total week 2) = $6,275 (week balance 2).
At the end of the report I'd like to have the remain balance. something like:
Remain Balance: (7,800 - (tw1 + tw2 + tw3 + tw4...))
My question is: How can I evaluate the value in Textboxes and make them interact inside he report so I can accomplish the right calculation?
It seems simple but I couldn't find a solution for this yet.

If you have created an application which uses database, and installed it for your client. Next you have updated the application and updating the database structure. So the client's database and the newest database has different structure. What is the ideal way to update the database structure, and still using client's previous entered data. I use C#.

Depends on the changes. You could possibly use an amend script, otherwise you create the new table and copy the data in. There is no easy way.

I have used this method successfully before ...
Create a set of "Upgrade" scripts for your database.
You could have a UpgradeSchema script where you would alter tables, indexes, etc and have a "UpgradeSystemData" script where you could populate your systems tables like a table of States, or a Tax table.
Best advice is to TEST, TEST, TEST these scripts an important test is to run the script once, then run it again on the newly upgraded database ... you will need to trap for the case where you want to add a column to a table and the table already exists. Also, trap for duplicate keys when inserting data.

Hi all. Just run into a bloody annoying little problem here. I've been prototyping this system for the last two months or so, as the domain model is explored, and it's time to move into the "proper" development phase. Up until now all the data access from the Oracle side (the app uses both Oracle and SQL Server datasources) was written using inline SQL and StringBuilders as I didn't have access to create packages on the Oracle instance. The time has come to move this logic into Stored Procs, which I have dutifully done and it works fine, lovely jubbly, but here's the problem;
My DAL code retrieves DataReaders from Oracle, using out ref cursors like all Oracle code uses. Originally, with the inline SELECT stuff, if the result set was null then my DataReader would return false from a call to the Read() method. So a typical method looks like this...

In the original implementation, this was fine in the case of a null resultset. The populate method never gets called cos the reader returns false from the Read() method call. Now, all of a sudden, it's returning true, going into the loop, executing a populate against a row with nothing in it!! What's going on? I've never run up against this quirk before and it happens against ExecuteDataSet() as well. I really don't want to have to check for a call to the IDataRecord["columnName"] causing an exception and rely on that for checking if the damn reader doesn't have data in it. How else to check? This seems like junk to me - what's point of return a cursor with not only no rows, but no columns in it?
I'm using the standard MS Enterprise Library Data Access Application Block, but it doesn't seem to make any difference to the results if I hand-plumb the connection and execution.
Has anybody else come up against this? Really, all help appreciated...
