My doubt is about SMPS. How much power is needed for an SMPS for the above configuration. Please suggest me a few budget SMPS.

If by SMPS you mean PSU or Power Supply Unit, then give the Antec Power Supply Calculator[^] a go. Fill in the page with what you know will be in the computer and it will tell you what the power consumption will be. Then take the next size PSU in wattage and your good to go. As for brand, whatever your pocket can afford, though Antec, Coolermaster, Thermaltake etc. have good reputations.

That's only true if you can afford a decent brand. Buying a $20 "600W" PSU that promptly smokes your hardware is not a good idea. Cut the rest of your system a bit if you're that tight on your budget.

That sounds like an error message I used to get with an old DeskJet using a parallel printer cable, if the port was configured as a 'standard' parallel port.
If somehow you're still using a parallel port, go into your computer's BIOS setup and change the printer port type to ECP or ECP+EPP. Or, try using a USB connection instead.
If you're already using USB then I have no ideas.

Hi,
I can't seem to connect to the internet and usb devices are not recognized by my system. I get a 769 error (network adapter problem) but however i reinstall using the drivers i still get the same error. device manager shows the following with a yellow icon beside the names:
1.wan miniport (ip) packet scheduler
2.wan miniport (network monitor) packet scheduler
3.wan miniport (PPTP) packet scheduler
Last software i installed was kaspersky internet security then i had to remove it again since it was in conflict with another antivirus. I have 2 lan cards...1 via motherboard. About the usb...pc camera is not recognized by the port after installation. Many thanks in advance for any and all responses

Hi all, I need to know the current status for SATA/PCI/PCIE.
For example:
If the chipset support SATA Gen2(3Gb/s) how can I know that the HDD is working on Gen1 or Gen2 mode?
The new PCI revision is PCI 3.0 how can I know that the PCI devices are working on PCI2.x or PCI 3.0 mode?
Now PCIE Gen2 is coming how can I know that the PCIE devices are working on PCIE Gen1 or Gen2 mode?

Hi all,
I am a newbie to NDIS driver programming. I have written a very basic and simple NDIS protocol driver which just prints a message for all incoming packets. (I've taken help from DDK's Passthru and Protocol driver examples).
The part where I am stuck is that my Protocol driver is registered with NDIS as BindAdapter, UnbindAdapter and PnPEvent Handlers are all getting invoked/called and working as per requirement. However neither ProtocolReceive() nor ProtocolReceivePacket() is getting invoked, even in case of heavy network traffic ( which I confirmed with use of Wireshark). 
Please Help.

I should know this, but I just can't recall, or Google up an answer. I have a 120 Gb Western Digital IDE drive that only formats to 80 Gb. I used it for some time in that state, then swapped it out for a 500 Gb unit (which formats to full capacity) and noticed that it was actually a 120 Gb drive. No matter what I've done, it just refuses to format (under XP) to more than 80 Gb. What the heck is going on, and how to I reclaim the other 60 Gb of disk?
p.s. This is NTFS formatted.

It's a Maxtore DiamondMax Plus 9, 120 GB ATA/133 HDD, model 6Y120PO. I just downloaded the manual this morning (I've had this drive for a while) and it mentions the really old 528 Mb and 8.4 Gb BIOS limit, but of course this is a modern MoBo, and neither of these limits is anywhere around the 80 Gb limit I'm seeing.
I'll poke around on their Web site and see if I can find thier diagnostic/formatting disk download.

Firttly I would have a look at the lable at the jumper settings. You may have a jumper set that limits the capacity, though I have only seen settings that limit to 32GB and not 80GB.
Secondly, if that isn't the problem I would look at the drive using a 3rd party application like Acronis Disk Director (my preference), Norton Partition Magic or a freeware version of the same. It may be that XP has an issue with the partition table and something else can get past it.

Doh! I forgot to check the partitions. I was just formatted the thing from a command line, so I didn't see that there was a whole extra partition on the drive. I guess when I first partitioned the thing, years ago, I only set up an 80Gb partition, maybe reserving the other 40Gb for another O/S installation. I repartitioned and it's formatting now. Man, it's always the most fundamental stuff that bites you

Hi All,
Iam using WMI to get the required printer job information.Here Iam using "Select * from win32_Printjob" from ManagementObjectQuery. In this Iam using thread.sleep for 10 seconds to get the pages,size.
Without thread.sleep Iam getting pages, size as 0.
But this sleep for 10 sec mechanism works only for small documents.
When I get large document It is unable to get the no.of pages,size(just showing them as 0).
1.Is there any way to get the correct pages,size of print document?
2.Is there any way to know that a document came for printing is totally read by spooler?
3.I think after reading all the data only it will go for printing.,am I right or wrong?If right,then how to know that status ready for printing?

Hi friends, for I am not familiar with x64 system and please help to see the following problem:
I want to get ring0 privilege to access I/O so I prepare to use a driver for my tool. I use 2003DDK(DDK 3790.1830)/WDK(WDK 6001.071220) to build a driver(XP free 32-bit) and it works well for Win32 systems(I use SCM to load the driver file dynamically). Then I build a Win64 driver(Windows Server 2003 x64 Free Build Environment) but I find that it can't be loaded correctly under windows2003 64-bit.The source code for win32 and win64 are the same and can be built successfully by DDK/WDK.
The error messages are as follows:
Event ID:1060 XXX has been blocked from loading due to incompatibility with this system. Please contact your software vendor for a compatible version of this driver.
I heard that for windows vista 64-bit or windows 2008 64-bit allow to load drivers which are signed by default. Then I use MS's testsign tool to sign the driver but I still get the same result.
Can anyone help to get some advice for it? Thanks a lot.

Solved the problem. I set the testsign mode on the driver can be loaded correctly. Vista/2008 64-bit can only load drivers which are signed by known certificates(such as Verisign...).

Over the past week my hard drive has started making a noise when it's accessed, i.e. it makes a small noise with the green light flickers indicating that it's reading/writing data to the disk.
I checked to see if it needed defragmented. It did, so I defragmented it. Unfortunately, that hasn't stopped the noise. Googling indicates that this is a bad sign; the drive may be about to fail. That's a drag as it's only about a year old.
Not wanting to lose any data, should I play it safe and just buy a new drive? If so, what's a relatively painless way to copy all of the data from my current drive to a new one?
In the past when installing a new drive, I would keep the old drive in the computer and simply read from it as needed. But if this drive is about to go bad, I'd like to copy everything to a new one. And I'd rather not go through the trouble of reinstalling all of my software.

I would use the corporate version of Ghost and make a sector by sector copy to the new drive.
There are several free programs out there that's doing the same thing. But I haven't tried them though.

Not an OS from Microsoft. The <edit>cache pagefile<edit> gets problems with the "random" response times from any USB connection.
Any OS that can be run from a CD will be fine though.

Windows won't allow it due to the possibility of the device being removed while the OS is running. Windows is demand-paged and aggressive at trimming working sets, including that of the kernel; the default for Windows is that all code and data is pageable and you must mark those sections that are not pageable.
Understandably, it causes problems when the page of system code is demanded, the OS tries to read it in, and the disk containing the code is no longer there.
