Hello,
I've only dabled a bit in Java, I work almost exclusively with .Net. That being said, I am looking to do encrypt a string from a java application (this will be done by another developer), decrypt it in .Net and send an XML response to the the java app.
Is there a universal method for encryption in Java that would allow us to use the same encryption key/method?
I know how to encrypt/decrypt in .Net, I just need to know if there is a standard that is used by both frameworks?

FYI - (in case anyone is interested)
I just used standard DES encryption which worked out great for my situation. As long as the same rgb/rgbIV keys are used on both ends, the entire process was very painless.

I think you need to clarify your question. E.g:
1. Are you talking binary trees here?
2. Do you mean you want a method to test which childnode of a given node that together with its childnodes has the largest sum of values?

hey why dont you increase java heapsize, using -Xms512x -Xmx1024x parameters, just go through jdk150_11 documentation and do the work around it will read.

Hi guys sry this isnt a programming question. I've always been wondering why JAVA is so important the development takes ages and the coding is difficult. I still dun get wht object oriented programming is. I dun want u guys to think i'm being bias against JAVA but why is this Language still Alive. Wht are the good points of using it.
And the Big question is it better to develop Applications in Visual studio or Java.
Does the google website run on java?
I'm a noob programmer seeking advice from u pro programmers.

C# is better ? certainly not.
most of what people think about java is biased because of all the noise microsofties made about it.
Java is NOT slow. you know, you can have bad programmer, and get a slow C/C++ applications too (which can lead into memory leaks if they don't take care of it). Java is also very well developped and maintained, and does not run only on windows. OH, but wait, you thought Windows was the only *real* OS ? sorry to break your dream.
most of the very large enterprise applications run on UNIX because (1) the UI is not needed and (2) it makes the plateform more stable. so, will you be able to run a C# on UNIX ? what ? mono ? crap. this is a project from the open source, not maintained by microsoft, then that will always be a lenght late.
BTW, ok, Microsoft is very good at providing development too, and programing languages, but look, Visual Studio doesn't half of the features Eclipse have.
Also, as long as there will be millions of lines of code running somewhere, the language wont be dead. Take Cobol for instance... buddy, COBOL is still alive !!!

that doesn't really makes sense. if you wish, you could even develop under notepad, KDevelop or vi...
that's just a development environment; it doesn't make your applicatino better.

man, you know what people say about choosing a programming language ? choose the one that fits you at best. If you find C# better, go for C#, but please don't spit at Java like those idiots who only swear by God Microsoft (moreover, most of the ones who spit at Java never wrote a java line of code of their life). if you want to play with linux one time in you life, or even better, to write portable applications, then it's probably worth it using Java. And i don't even talk about J2EE...

researched on the
history of OS(its pretty long).But lets start from the GUI OS time line ,made by a group from Xerox.
which was later copied(oops) by Apple then by Microsoft. The current OS runs on the x86 architecture
powered by intel chips.

I know JAVA runs on a virtual machine which i have no idea how to create(do u know how?). I got
really p i ssed off when i started using the J2SE(not sure thats the right one)IDE it was so annoying
to use,
debugging was even worst it was like a jungle, and to make matters worse the GUI codes made it even
more difficult to debug(the reason for my frustration towards JAVA). Only recently i started using
easy eclipse(which i later found by accident), excellent user interface.

yes. I please you to write "you" instead of "u", and in general, write the fully well-spelt english terms instead of abbreviations.
ok. For the OS stuff, it's another subject, but i'll give you some hints there. Yes, Windows is a good, user-friendly, OS. but it's not because Microsoft has its OSes on 95% of the Computers in the world that makes them almighty. I like microsoft as a software editor, but I certainly don't like they political choices.
MAC... hum, it has probably some advatages upon Windows, but from my part, I am definitely not interested to move to such as OS. dunno why. I just can't. anywayz.

this is not suprising if you think of it. What's the interest of Microsoft ? Profit. and how to make profits ? sell more software. Office is not a portable software though. don't think because you have if on MAC too, it's java related. definitely not. it was "ported" to MAC, that mean, recompiled.
and NO, Office is not a "Windows" program, it's a Microsoft Application. don't confuse.

BTW, you can't say that "Linux is an offspring of Unix". Linux comes from the Open source world, so sometimes called GNU/Linux. Unix on the other side is proprietary OS, which means that the sources are not opened, and that such OS run on a limited kind of hardware (Sun OS - Solaris - runs on Sun Servers for instance). so as the sentence says, GNU is Not Unix.
In fact, people often think tht linux comes from Unix, but that's wrong. as Unix was not open source, Linus Torvalds wrote his own OS from scratch, and didn't reuse any part of the sources of UNIX. Linux kernel is completely independant from the Unix kernel.
For the Business World now, Some applications don't have UI (servers applications, Web Services, etc.), then, don't need a graphical OS. the fact of not having a whole graphical layer in an OS makes it more heavy, and less stable (more code makes more bugs)...

the others sure know about the existance of MAC and Linux at least. ok, Unix is more in a profesional scope, so it doesn't care not to be very well known.

you don't write the Wirtual Machine. you use it. Also, you have to know that a VM is using the underlying OS it is installed on. so, the code of the virtual machine on Windows is not the same as the code of the VM installed on a MAC. BUT : you don't have to care about this when coding in java, because (1) you don't write the Virtual Machine, you just use it, and (2), the Virtual Machine provides a layer for you Byte Codes to be the same on any system you run it. It's the VM which understand the intermediate language for which you compiled your java program into, which will translate that Intermediate Language into something the OS can understand.

well, you certainly didn't start on the right foot. the as I already stated, the IDE is just an environment supposed to make your code writing more nice/easy. but it doesn't optimize your code. so writing your application in Eclipse, in notepad, or even in Visual Studio is possible. what you have to matter about however is how you will have to compile your code then.

ever since i was exposed to computer when i was young i've been facinated by them, the way they work, the things inside them that make them tick,truly amazing.
This unix thing is interesting could u elaborate more about them. What good do they provide, u stated that unix runs on certain hardware, does it run on the Intel Microprocessor. Does the UNIX OS have GUI interface like windows.
U stated that VM cant be written. Do u know how to make a VM.
Actually the MAC lepored(latest OS) is like a cool toy to play with, it doesnt even have virus
protection.
Is it possible for me as an individual to create my own compiler
And i found out how Mac air's(since we're chating about Apple i thought i'd talk about the MAc Air)
intel chip was reduced in size by 20%(they removed some components)

i didn't say so. I said YOU (high level programmer) doesn't have to care about how a Virtual Machine is written. so, NO, I don't know how to code such a thing, and seriously, I don't care.

yes, but a very hard task. you'd have to know the exact grammar of the language, the exact lexic, too, and all the specifics explain in the ISO standard. a useless pain when good compiler/linkers/optimizers already exist for free.

Well honestly its still a pain in the butt programming in JAVA, but i hope there would be better improvements in the language ,and i totally hate the braces{} most of the code needs intergerPhase(not sure this is the correct syntax) but still i have to go along with it and use it.
I prefer VB its easier to debug.

If i were to replicate this code in java holy c!@#$ i have to link the GUI ID to the textbox that i wish to subtract and put it in the intergerphase(). These long winded things are wht make JAVA for me less favorable. (example)If my boss asked me to program in JAVA for apps these winding codes are very annoying,i would still have to do the job even if i'm not comfortable with it. If only i could improve them or make a better programming language then JAVA.
The GUI's(button,listbox,etc...) in java are ugly, is this by default like that or can it be improved.
About the UNIX in what way is it good for business is it possible to have a GUI UNIX OS.

VB is crap !!! really. ok, VB.NET has improvements over VB6 and previous version, but still.
1) no semicolon  man, sometimes, it's useful to be able to write 2 instructions on the same line. here, you just can't
2) no braces ok, i'm kidding a bit, but sincerely, braces let you visualize quickly the scope of a variable !
3) the optimizer.  can we ever call this an optimizer ? just compare the MSIL generated by the same code, one in VB.NET, the other in C#. VB just do more things than needed.
anywayz. the semicolons and braces stuff are not Java stuff at all. if you go to C, C++, C#, javascript, or any other "wise" language, you'll have to use those.

I tried to use various ports to run the application to no avail. For information the default port 80 was being used by some other appliation to I had to choose a different port.
