Seriously, nagging smokers with this crap makes absolutely zero difference, don't waste your time. They all quite when they are good and ready to or die, not a moment before.

What an amazing double standard. I don't smoke, so I don't get several extra smoke breaks during the day? A group of developers used to go out every day at 2:00pm for our "smoke break" and throw around a football. Management got pissed at us and told us we can't do that. So while we're inside, the smokers take many breaks...
I'm not saying that every smoker is bad... Just most of them.

Hey, there's nothing in the world stopping you from starting smoking, it's fun, it's easy and all the cool people do it. Plus you get bonuses like extra long and multiple breaks. You become more productive with those breaks and as a result you put out better and more code than your non smoking bretheren.

I have found that the less breaks I take the less time I have to spend in this god-foraken town.
I commute two hours one way to a stinking hell-hole, which I guess is better than starving in my jobless blackhole of a home town. 
So yeah, no breaks.

One company I worked for had a sub-company in Shreveport. When we merged they came up here. Basically, they didn't like our procedures...or any IT procedures for that matter. Guess their 'free-n-easy' philosophy about life also transferred over into their work as well. Plus, their work-place environments down there must've been like the 1950's as far what was appropriate to say in the workplace. Needless to say, they had to go through some 'adjustments'.

I totally know what you're talking about when it comes to "appropriate". I don't think that had much to do with an era as it had to do with home training and the lack there of.
I was raised down south and I know better what to say in public vs what can be said candidly among friends--not that I use such language, "I'm just sayin'" :P

Micro-management gets antsy when I'm not at my desk typing something, the less scrutiny I have on me, the more productive I tend to be.
So when I do get out early on Thursday evenings they don't tend to say much because I've managed to cram 100 hours into 8 days.
