Notification From Problem

Hi,

i'm trying To Display a Notification Form To the User Telling him that tha App is loading
Sql DataBase.

The frmLoading Load From Contains Label that states "Please Wait While Loading"
but when the Form Loads it do not shows me the Label and the Cursor over the Label is in
TimeClock Mode Like it's Waiting For Something!!!!,
The Thing is that The From is Active and can Be Moved

The Operation of The Fill Methods Takes Very Small Time Slice if The Connection Succeded
so the Form is immediatly Closed after Shown.
if the Loading Was Not Succesful
The Fill Methods Will Wait For A While if the Connection To SQL Server Could Not Be Done

The Point of the Form is to Give the User the Feeling That Something is Happening

I've tried a Thread But Got The Same resaults

If you get thrown into the catch block, you don't end up closing the fmrLoading form. Try rewriting this as:

using (frmLoading loading = new frmLoading())
{
  loading.Show();
  try
  {
    TA....
  }
  catch ( SomeAppropriateException here )
  {
    this.Close();
  }
  loading.Close();
}

As a general note, try wrapping your code blocks in pre instead of code tags and don't catch general exceptions without actually attempting to catch more specific exceptions before hand.

Picklist - How to display a picklist in a datagrid

Hi
I have a picklist of 68 items. This is returned from a web service as a picklist. I would like to display the items from the picklist in a datagrid.

I have added the picklist items to an array then tried to display the array in the datagrid. Unfortunatly Im nto getting anywhere.

Heres my code

m_AddressList = base.AddressPickList;
PicklistItem[] atItems = m_AddressList.Items;

gridAddresses.DataSource = atItems;

It all builds, but nothing is displayed.

I would appreciate any help.

is this ASP.NET? Have you tried calling DataBind() on the grid?

Running operation at shutdown

Is there a way to run a potentially long operation at shutdown while (displaying progress and the ability to cancel to the user). Something like the synchronising folders that happens after the user has shutdown on a domain computer.

I do not want to prevent shutdown or anything like that, just allow my application to finish any necessary processing as part of the shutdown process.

Hi!
You'll have to subscribe to the (static) SessionEnding event of SystemEvents class and perform your operation in the corresponding event handler.

Thanks, I have tried hooking that event and I can start the process when I receive the event but I only have a limited time (very short) to respond before Windows displays a dialog saying the aplpication has not closed (the one with the progress ticking down and "End Now" button), this would not be acceptable. I was hoping there was a way to run a long operation after the user session has ended but before the machine has shut down, such as the offline files synchronisation process in Windows.

I don't know if there's a way to tell windows to postpone shutdown (perhaps there's a registry key for this), but right now I see only 2 alternatives:
1) Cancel the shutdown while your shutdown process is still running or
2) Start the shutdown process in a separate thread and don't cancel windows shutdown. But then your shutdown process can be aborted unexpectedly, so this might not be a good idea (depending on the real use case).

ReportViewer Error: Subreport could not be shown

Hello,
I am using a subreport with my main report. I have addedd data source object to the subReport.
Also, I have handled event "LocalReport_SubreportProcessing".
When i run the ReportViewer, i can see the data but at the top it displays: "Error: Subreport could not be shown ".
Please tell me what is missing and how could i fix this problem?

No, i am not displaying subreports in a list.

I added subreport control from ReportItem toolBox to the main report.
I have created separate .rdlc file for the subreport and mapped with SubReport. Still the problem is not resolved.

Hello,
I'll try to explain what I'm trying to do as sufficient as possible, or better I'll give an example. Usually when pressing F1 in an application we get help dialogbox. I want to do something like that. When I press F6 let's say I want to print. But I can't find a listener that does that. KeyDown only works when an object has focus. Does anyone know how to trigger an event when there is no focus. For instance, an MDiParent doesn't have focus when children are active, but I want to get the help dialog. Does anyone know how to do this? Thank you in advance.

You may add it to the key down event of the parent form itself

If you mean something like
this.KeyDown += System.Windows....
It doesn't work, because KeyDown works when the object has focus and it doesn't a Child does.

This works perfectly fine for me as long as the form is the active window.

Then you have to make a hook to your keyboard events in the Os Level..

What about setting key preview?

If you set KeyPreview to true for your main form then use the key press event, it might get called even if your on a child window. You'd have to check though. It would be much easier than a global hook if it works.

My current favourite word is: Nipple!

Hi,

Recently working on an application thats needs to recieve files from an server.
What i need is for the datagridview to display the filename , filetype and the time it was recieved.
But i cant seem to get it to work, do i need to use the FileWatcher linked to the datagridview? Confused | :confused:

You cannot directly associate the filewatcher with the data grid. What you may like to do would be add code to get the details of files in a data table in the events of Filewatcher and bind them to your data grid.
