Greetings,

I am new to javascript, and I am trying to get this code snipet to work that I found in a book.
It complains in my web browser (IE 6.0) that a "Object is Required" on the switch statement.
Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?

CODE:

function ParseXML()
{
documentXML = document.all("c:\\Test.xml").XMLDocument;
divResults.innerHTML = getChildren(documentXML, " ");
}

function getChildren(nodeXML, indent)
{
var typeXML;

switch (nodeXML.nodeType) // get error "Object Required" on this line.

I figured out what I was doing wrong, you can't have a file path, but you must use an id instead.

Before script block begins add this:
[XML ID = "TESTxml" SRC = "C:\\Test.xml"][/XML]

NOTE: "[" = Is really the "<",ect. I had to change because otherwise the post wouldn't show up.

Now in the actual script change to:
function ParseXML()
{
documentXML = document.all("TESTxml").XMLDocument;
divResults.innerHTML = getChildren(documentXML, " ");
}

That's it!
I hope this helps someone in the future.

Hey, in the Microsoft.Web.UI.WebControls.TreeView Control (which i had to d/l from MSDN), i'm having trouble with the SelectedIndexChanged event which is supposed to go off when a new node is selected. Here's what i've read so far:

Dynamically added nodes in Page_Load() won't have events, so just to be safe i create all nodes in the Page_Init().

Any advice other than this will be helpful!

I believe so, but I've had to put that on the backburner for now, i'll be sure to reply here if I start working on it again (which should be soon, i'm finishing up a more important project right now, so i'm sure i'll be stuck in asp.net land soon enough.)

am trying to set the focus to a particular text entry box on a web page using javascript ... works in a function but i need it to work after the page has loaded too ... i have a test page that works but on the one i want it to work on it doesn't!!!

make sure you put the code which sets the focus, at the end of the page, so that the browser runs it after it has already parsed the control you want to affect.

...or you can use the <script language=javascript defer> so that the script will run after the page is loaded, or fire the script on the onreadystatechange event

I went into IIS and set the directory security (IP address and domain name restrictions) to Denied Access and then added a group of computers using our ip and subnetmask. I also added my own ip as a single computer. When I did this I can no longer open up my project in .NET properly. It says Web Access Failed. Any suggestions?

I figured it out. Apparently IIS is using inverse subnet masking? All the documentation seems to show the other way around. I had to use

IP Subnet Mask
24.24.32.0 0.0.0.255

instead of

IP Subnet Mask
24.24.32.0 255.255.255.0

which is what all the docs seem to use. Did they change this?

I as the title suggests I am new to asp and asp.net programming, can anybody suggest a good starting point. I am talking really "Hello world" stuff. I hava good idea as to what I want to achieve with my first web application but really don't know where to start as there is so much stuff out there.

Use a template column and insert you image, if all the images are the same that is. Otherwise you may have to handle the OnDataBind or OnItemCreate and insert the images as neccessary.

The session_end event is Notoriously unreliable. The session doesn't officially end some 20 minutes (depending on settings) after the window is closed. And even that's not guarenteed.

A possible solution might be to use some javascript with the onunload event in the body tag, but that seems iffy at best too. Frown | :(

I used a radio and select groups in form, I selected the option I want and then refresh (or submit) the page. But I found that the selection returned to the default pages
How to save the selection I want. With javascript?
I hope some one can give me some help.
