1) Populate your datakey names.
2) Now you can access them in side RowUpdating by gridView1.DataKeyNames[e.RowIndex].Values[columnName]

1) Try adding a group by clause int he select query

I don't think I explained my problem clearly. First I want to know how to find the name of the datafield which the cell is bound to in each cell in a row, for ex. If the value in column[0] is "1234567" i want to get from code that the datafield is IDNumber, to be able to know which field in the db to update. The reason why I don't have this info available is because the grid is generic in a user control and I bind the grid to a list<object>. Secondly I want to know how to specify the order of the columns returned and not the rows of data. I always thought it will databound the columns in the same order as the select query: for instance: Select IDNumber, suname, initials from Employee. When I bind the datasource: the first column is Initials, sencond column is surname and the last column is IDNumber. I don't understand why this happens, any idea?

i have a web page with 10 textbox control. i have set TabIndex for each control .it is working properly if there is no postback. if i postback date on textchange event the tab is not working properly .it is going somewhere else

How can I convert Word 2000 (and above) documents in xml format [We can leave Word 2007] for Now. After making some change to the XML I would like to revert it back to Word document.

Any idea how can we archive this?
I am using .NET 2.0 framework

I don't think that this is possible.

All C# applications should call Application.Quit(); in the beginning to avoid any .NET problems.- Unclyclopedia

So is there a way we can embid XML document in the ASPX page and allow user thin client to edit the document and save it.

There should be some ways we should be able to handel word documents.

All office apps have an XML implementation. Load your document, and then saveas XML. YoOu will see the whole doc as an XML file. We create word documents on the fly for our application. We used to use Automation, but this was way too slow. We now create the document in XML and the user knows no difference. Check out this link....

Thanks, I am deligted that you have done some thing of this nature. I will surely try this out.

I am some how trying to load the Word document [after converting it from XML] on a browser. Means Embid Word Doc in Thin client. Is there a posibility I can do it? I will defenetly lok in the direction you suggested.

Hi all

i have developed a site and it works fine but after that i created the same site with Ajax.
but the problem is that the Home page of my site takes to long time to loaded and there is no bulky data.

The whole contant are same in both site but the site in which i m using ajax is slow and second one is faster than one, i know the ajax is not the region behind this.

In my Home page there are some addvertisement of companies and Only 10 latest record in Grid(There is no paging in grid) and 3 Web User Control.

Can anyone tell me how can i make speed of loading faster?

1) Have you changed the debug mode in web.config to false ?. If not change it to false.
2) Try precompiling the website using the ASPNET_COMPILER to fasten the initial page load.
3) If you are using the script manager in the page. Set the Script Mode to release.

1) Create a temp folder say c:\Staging
2) Go to Programs > Microsoft Visual Studio xxxx > Visual Studio Tools > Visual Studio Command prompt

3) Type like this ( Assuming your application is created in c:\inetpub\wwroot\myApps)

ASPNET_COMPILER -p c:\inetpub\wwroot\myApps -v / c:\Staging

4) The application will be precompiled the athe result will be placed in
c:\staging

5) Now you can copy and deploy the compiled version that is on c:\Staging in your webserver.

This works only if you are using .net 2.0 or higher

I cannot get the details of the error by running from the internet. Try running it from the local host and put the exact error message.

This does't look like a error. You may unchek directory browsing in IIS and Ass Home.aspx in to the document list.

Before that did you tried running your precompiled version from your local ystem before deploying it in Server ?
