If you took my code as was then you would need to change the type of the input control to submit, rather than button, as that will then cause a postback e.g.

Hi,

Simply add an alert message after checking the value length:

Hi,

If I do "this.GetType()" in an ascx.cs usercontrol, I get a strange name, which is the auto generated final class, in Web Site Project.

e.g. default_aspx_modules_admin_useredit

Is there a way to get the real class name, as I wrote the class?

I have some data assigned to controls in XML files, and controls would need to know their own name to access their own data. If possible, I don't want to create a readonly variable with the class name.

Parse from AppVirtualPath? Any better ideas?

Hi,

Use this.GetType().BaseType.Name to get the class name or this.GetType().BaseType.FullName for the namespace heierarchy + class name.

Have you tried getting the type of the type?

eg.:

Type parentClass = this.GetType().GetType();

The goal: to run a web service in a Internet Explorer page. Can it be
done?

The only way I see is to have a VBScript able to import the functions
from System.Net.Sockets.TcpListener. Is it possible? examples? Do the
user needs to have some or all of the .NET framework installed?

A web service uses HTTP and XML, which isn't hard to use from Javascript. You use the XMLHTTP object for the HTTP communication, and XML is just text.

You can look up any AJAX code example (that doesn't use a complicated library) to get the code to send the XML using the XMLHTTP object.

I have a gridview with Select buttons in the first column. There are lots of rows, and I have set up CSS to freeze the header row in place as the table is scrolled (using position:relative). I also have CSS set up for the hover event of the button which highlights the button with a nice black border. The problem arises when the containing div is scrolled. If the cursor is moved over any one of the buttons, the header row suddenly jumps to it's scrolled position (a lot of the time this is too far north and it just disappears). Scroll back to the top of the grid, and hover again - it's back! Any diagnoses and possible cures greatly appreciated.

p.s. Yes I have considered creating a custom control inheriting from Gridview, but this seems like a lot of work when the solution I currently have is so close to perfect...

I got around this problem for the prototype demo by not having enough data to require scrolling! For the production version I will probably create a custom gridview inheriting from Gridview, or dolly up a Repeater with some sorting capabilities. However, I'm still curious as to what would cause this. I assume it's client side (IE only - not tried in FF) as I don't see any postback or page refresh.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

This can simply be achieved with the following code:

The setInterval function will run every 500 milliseconds (1/2 a second) to update the label with the current date / time.

Ok, I just created a page which shows some columns from .mdb file and it's working perfectly, the data is loaded and the grid looks fine, but when I click on the Edit or Delete links, I get this..

SqlTableProfileProvider is a custom provider (written by someone at Microsoft I think), right? Do you have a file/project reference to this provider set up in your project?

Now I am working with webservices.But now we are facing a problem while calling a method in webservice asynchronously from a web page.ie.when the webmethod computes the result it will not get reflected in the webform, because the page would be rendered to the client while the method processing data.Please help me to avoid this problem without using polling...........
